Words that are Special

A Vintage Journey's Challenge this month has been words that are special. One of my favorite things is sentiments/words stamps.  I was part of the Verses Rubber Stamps team for a long time because I love that all their stamps are quotes and sentiments.

I decided to pull out one of my stamps from Verses and create a tag.

This was a lot of layering of papers, dies and ephemera and the only stamping is the lovely verse from Verses Rubber Stamps.

The paper and ephemera is from Prima Marketing and the image is Darkroom Door.  The dies are form Memory Box and Simon Says Stamps.

Happy Monday to you all...

Tropical Seahorse

Howdy!  I am sharing today my Funkie DT project for the Frilly and Funkie "Out of the Cold" Challenge.   Cec is hosting the challenge and here is what she said about the challenge:  "It is winter and that means snow and cold in so many places so let's head to the tropics. Create any vintage or shabby chic project that will make us feel warm - think lots of sunshine, bright colours, flora and fauna and even animals hiding in the rain forest."

Well, I took her words to heart and channeled the warm tropical winds and here is what happened...
I started from these pretty Wendy Vecchi flowers and made a large batch of them. I like fussy cutting and cut them out while watching t.v. with the hubby.   If you like to fussy cut with scissors like me I want to recommend getting the mini scissors.  I have about 4 pairs.  I keep one just for my ribbon, thread, or material and the others for cutting paper.  They make such a difference when cutting if you have a smaller pair of scissors to navigate through the intricate designs or small spaces.

I stamped them with black archival ink on mixed media paper.  I then sprayed them with distress stain spray. I started with Squeezed Lemonade but decided I needed a stronger color and loaded them up with Abandoned Coral.

I wanted something summery to go with my flowers and I looked through my dies and the seahorse caught my eye.  I cut multiples of him as well as pulling out some previously cut horses.

They all got a special treatment of crackle embossing paste through the harlequin mini stencil.  While it was wet I tried a variety of colors but loved the orange and yellow mix the best. I left them soaked to dry with all the color pooling up in areas.  I came back later and heat dried the embossing paste to get even more bubbling and texture.

I then cut out a variety of leaves and branches which were sprayed with a mix of yellow, green and blue.  I then laid a big sheet of mixed media paper over it and got the cool background you can see with the reverse image of the branches.

I had so many extra seahorses and flowers I set up journal page with all my leftover bits. Our weather this week has been tremendous for February and this challenge fits right in with the great weather we are having.

Come play along with us and share your warmth with us in the challenge.   The team will choose their top four picks with the winner being invited to join us in a Guest DT spot here at Frilly and Funkie and the next three will receive badges to display on their blogs. Everyone who enters and follows the rules will be entered into the draw to have the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

Sending you warm tropical breezes...

Trust Your Heart

Good Morning!  I am sharing these projects  over on the Frilly and Funkie Blog today. The Friday Focus is laser cut wood and chipboard embellishments. Those items  will be an extra 15% off  through March 3rd. You can find all these bargains under the Friday Focus tab at The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

The first project is a mini clipboard with a mix of elements in gold and pink.

The inspiration started with the fine clock face and wanting to highlight it by offsetting it on a strong background.

Then to create a second focal point the butterfly or dragonfly had me thinking and the dragonfly won out.  I used the chipboard to die cut the bottom one.

For more detailed instructions and to see my second project hop over to the Frilly and Funkie blog!

Happy Friday!

A quick share of a valentines created for one of my loved ones using some adorable robots from Hero Arts.

I started with a layering stencil and a mix of green, bluish green and orange as my color scheme. I then layered in a heart with some additional stenciling and then a mix of gears, stamped curlicue and the sweet robots.

I hope you have a wonderful Valentine's Day!

Love

Time for another fun Frilly and Funkie Challenge!  The Funky Side of the team is sharing their fabulous designs for the "Be My Valentine Challenge".   The challenge is hosted by Zoe and she has asked us to create a card for your sweet Valentine in a vintage or shabby chic style.

I decided to go a little non-traditional and mix up my images non-valentines and valentines together.
I truly love stamping and mixing up stamped images in a variety of colors is one of my favorite things to do.   I started with stamping some backgrounds with a variety of inks to contrast the gold and red tones.

I then stamped the dragonfly twice once over my stenciled background and again on a white cardstock using black ink.  I painted my butterfly with gold.  I found a cool chipboard button?  in some vintage gatherings that I painted gold to center my butterfly.

I stamped a background with the small text and then traced a heart with a black watercolor pencil. I used a waterbrush to create shadowing.  After it dried (Very important... I always forget and try to cut damp paper which will cause it to rip not cut!) I cut the edge of my heart to allow me to layer that section over the dragonfly background.

Remember that the DT will choose the top four picks with the winner being invited to join in a Guest DT spot at Frilly and Funkie and the next three will receive badges to display on their blogs.
Everyone who enters and follows the rules will be entered into the draw to have the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

Thanks for stopping by!
