Happy New Year!

Wishing you all a very blessed and  joyful New Year!

I started this before Christmas but couldn't find the backdrop to make this image shine.  I finished it this morning and was hoping it could bring us joy in the new year!

This is one of my favorite images and is an old stamp from Hero Arts in their ArtStamps collection.

I spent a lot of time trying to frame it in a way that would make it shine.  I embossed the background of the tag with embossing paste and the gothic lettering.  I sprayed it with a mix of Antique Linen, Mica Spray, and Tarnished Brass.  After that I added random spurts of gold paint.  I die cut the frame and mixed the same colors.  I cut out the area for the stamped image.  I love this sentiment stamp as well which is from Memory Box and an older stamp as well.

I then glitzed up the background with die cut snowflakes from tissue paper which were embossed with Ranger Queen's Gold.  I then sprinkled on snowflakes and gems.

My wish for everyone in the New Year is a healthy pandemic free world.  :)

Festive Fun

Hi!  Back with some inspiration for the holidays!  The Funkie Junkie Boutique Challenge team is sharing some inspiration for festive fun. Here is how Jenny describes it:

"As it gets so busy this time of year we will not be setting a challenge theme or requesting submissions - in it's place the Design Team are sharing some fun festive makes with you. Enjoy!"

I am fascinated with gold embossing powder.  I love the idea of adding a luxury feel with gold embossing powder.  This idea started with gold embossing powder, stars, and stamps.

This idea led to many stars with many layers of gold embossing powder.  After that I inked up the stamp I wanted to imprint with Versamark watermark ink.  I then heated up the star until the embossing powder was liquid.  Then quickly stamp into the embossing powder.

After it cools you can pull the stamp out and you will have a beautiful imprint.  I did this multiple times with different stamps and sizes of stars.

That led to many sizes of stars with a variety of imprints of leafy greens and holly.  Then I needed to pull them together somehow.  Why not a floral pick?  That could be placed in a bunch of flowers or even a poinsettia?

I couldn't get a picture without a flash but you get the idea. :)  It looks beautiful against the vibrant poinsettia flowers.   I can't wait to get a bunch of flowers to mix it in with to put on our holiday table.

Thanks for stopping by and please pop over to the Funkie Junkie Boutique Challenge Blog to see all the holiday inspiration from the fabulous design team!

Yuletide Delights

Happy Wednesday!  The new challenge is available for The Funkie Junkie Boutique.  The challenge is called Yuletide Delights and  hosted by Janna! Here is how she describes the challenge:

"Let's get festive and create some Vintage Yuletide magic. Perhaps use some holiday distress colors or go full glitz with sparkles and falling snow. It is getting cold and we are thinking of sugarplums, candy canes, and holiday cheer. Create holiday cards, décor, or ornaments to show your Yuletide Delights. Have fun with your make and create some holiday magic! Happy crafting!"

I was inspired by some vintage mittens online and thought it would be fun to create a set of mittens.  My mittens will make a great decoration on a package.

I drew free hand the mitten shapes.  I traced it out and replicated it.  I then used the stencil and alternated the colors on the stencil to add the knitted pattern.

I added cuffs which were also stenciled with alternating colors.  I then decided to accent with some die cuts along with a few stamped items including the snowman.

Come join us and show your yuletide delight!  The overall winner will be offered the chance to be a Guest Designer at a future date at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog, and everyone who enters and follows the rules will go into the drawing for the chance to win a $25.00 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. There are also Top 3 Badges for three additional outstanding entries, chosen by the Design Team.

Tag It!

Happy Wednesday!  Time for a new challenge at The Funkie Junkie Boutique called Tag it!  Teri is hosting it and here is her description:

"Now is the time to be sure you have enough holiday gift tags. Show us you best festive holiday tag."

Who doesn't love a jolly Santa?  This one from Stampers Anonymous captured my eye.  I decided to use him on a tag with lots of pretty die cuts.  But I have a feeling he would be a fabulous tag all by himself!
The tag started with a repeated text with a lovely red ink.  I originally started with a large tag and decided I wanted to shorten the tag to make Santa shine.  I then stamped santa and colored him with a touch of watercolor pencils.

I decided I wanted to give him open eyes and added the circles and pupils for his eyes.  I added a twinkle with a white highlight and glossy accents on his pupils.

I then die cut a variety of holiday greenery.  I sponged them with a mix of green and red dye inks.  I finished with a few bells and ribbon tied into a bow.

I hope you are excited to play along.  Jump over to the blog to see all the beautiful tags my teamies designed.  The overall winner will be offered the chance to be a Guest Designer at a future date at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog, and everyone who enters and follows the rules will go into the drawing for the chance to win a $25.00 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. Living Things

Hi! Today starts a new challenge at The Funkie Junkie Boutique!  The challenge is hosted by me!  I decided to call it Living Things and here is the description:

"For this challenge the inspiration is animals or any type of living creature that you want to feature on your art!  This will showcase our love for our pets, animals and/or our insect friends!  Include a photo, stamped image, embellishment or pattern paper of a living creature in your art."

I have been wanting to play with a new stamp set from Stampers Anonymous that features all kinds of moths.  I decided to use this opportunity to stamp up a series of them on vellum.

After I stamped them I added color with watercolor pencils and waterbrush.  I then covered them with versamark watermark ink and embossed them with clear embossing powder.

A set of translucent moths to be used in the future!

The rest of the card was a mix of stamping, die cuts(circles) and sponging and splattering ink.  :)  I hand cut out my set of moths and then had to pick and choose which landed on my card.

Please come play along with us in the challenge and share your favorite living thing! The overall winner will be offered the chance to be a Guest Designer at a future date at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog, and everyone who enters and follows the rules will go into the drawing for the chance to win a $25.00 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. Grunge, Ghouls, or Giggles?

Welcome back to another Funkie Junkie Boutique Challenge!  The challenge this time is Grunge, Ghouls, or Giggles!

Here is the description of the challenge:

"Halloween is just around the corner and this week we are getting our hands dirty. Will your makes be frightful and ghoulish or will they be cute and get giggles? Add a touch of grunge to your makes. Cards, décor, scrapbook pages, journal spreads, we want to see it all. We will be most Distressed if you miss out on the spooky cute Halloween fun! Happy crafting!"

I thought it would be fun to play with some beautiful cathedral windows and make an Arch ATC. I mixed a variety of the seasonal mica sprays, Idea-Ology Layers Halloween Ephemera with some beautiful flowers to make a few different ATCs.

I first die cut about 4 different arches in white cardstock and kraft cardstock. I ended up cutting some additional backing or structure from a thin cardboard.  I then Sprayed, Sponged, and embossed each one in different shades of gold, brown, and black.

I embossed the arch with a mix of gold embossing powder and brown glaze embossing.  I sprayed the flowers with a mix of the mica sprays.  I then stamped the sentiments and embossed the key to coordinate.

The owl fit the sentiment perfectly and made me laugh.  I mixed it with a few of the idea-ology ephemera and more flowers sprayed with a mix of inky sprays.

Come share your Halloween inspiration with us at the Funkie Junkie Boutique! The overall winner will be offered the chance to be a Guest Designer at a future date at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog, and everyone who enters and follows the rules will go into the drawing for the chance to win a $25.00 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. Fall Gratitude

Time for another fun challenge at The Funkie Junkie Boutique!  The new challenge is called Fall Gratitude and here is how Teri describes the challenge:

" I love the concept of Gratitude and being Thankful. Use fall colors and embellishments to create a tag or project expressing gratitude."

I have to admit I have a fondness for the fall and the colors, crisp air and beautiful weather.  Anytime I can stamp, die cut or play with leaf embellishments the art seems to create itself.  I decided to add the sentiment of light the way to show my appreciation to someone who has provided me many inspiration and lights the way for me every day!

I started with a 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of white cardstock.  I pulled out a few stencils and used texture crackle paste to stencil on leaves in the background.  While it was still wet I applied the Distress Stain Sprays.

That background paper got lots of use in die cutting extra pieces and stamping my sentiment. I also have a second card base created with the remainder.

I have been getting a lot of use out of my seasonal mica sprays from Ranger I coated all the flowers and background with a few other sprays thrown in.

Please come join us in the challenge!  There is an opportunity to win a gift card at the Funkie Junkie which always has great deals on a variety of products!

Tree Bark

Hi!  I have been busy playing with the new Darkroom Door Release!  There are so many fun stamps.  I had a few samples I created for the Texture Stamp Tree Bark and thought I would share them out to you.

I started with using the bark as a background to the beautiful butterflies.  I love the sentiment as it is so charming.

Then I decided to mix up my background and use the texture bark mixed with the coffee stain.

I used the soft antique linen to blend into the background. It almost looks like cloth.

The next card took me the longest because I wanted to add the feather and spend hours stamping and re-stamping the feather in different colors and then stamping the coffee stain over the feather image and cutting it out to place on the original card.

I knew it wouldn't stamp cleaning onto the bark so I spent the time to create it separately and fussy cut it and place it onto the circle exactly aligned.

Happy Sunday!

Chalk it up

Happy Wednesday!  Time for a new challenge at the Funkie Junkie Boutique!  Laura is hosting the new challenge: Chalk it up and she describes it:

"September is normally when kids head back to school, it when the learning begins again....Create a project about learning, does not have to be a school themed project, learning is not just about books and school, sometimes it learning a new scrapbooking technique, or a cool fact and you must include chalk!  IE - chalk paint, chalk board, actual chalk...."

I have some pretty chalks and hardly ever use them. I decided to play with them and learn some new ways to try them out.

The first card I stamped in archival ink.  I then used a combination of smearing the chalk inside the lines along with painting with water a bit of the chalk around the edges to add a depth of shadows.

The chalks come with an applicator which I used to apply the background colors.  I then used a waterbrush to add the darker hues.

I also added some shading with watercolor pencils on the leaves and some highlights with a white gel pen.

On my next card I used the chalks to highlight the embossing on the leaves and background.

I created the background with the texture paste and a stencil.  While it was still wet I spritzed it with distress stain spray.  After it dried I used chalk to rub over the surface in various areas to add a shadow and highlight the embossing.

For the leaves I also spritzed with a mix of distress stain inks.  After they dried I used a dark chalk rubbed over the surface to accentuate the veins.

Everything recieved a lovely layer of clear embossing powder to make them shine.

Please come join the challenge!   The overall winner will be offered the chance to be a Guest Designer at a future date at The Funkie Junkie Boutique blog, and everyone who enters and follows the rules will go into the draw for the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. Twisted Tree

Hi!  I wanted to share two new cards I created with the Darkroom Door Twisted Tree.  I love this new stamp set!

Some stamps speak to me and this is definitely one of them.  I created two versions of the same card this morning.  I wanted to try it out in a variety of sizes.

I could see this on an Artist Trading Coin, Tag or ATC.  I used the new masks from Tim Holtz for the Moon and then the Twisted Tree stamps for the Tree, birds and sentiment.

Very spooky and fun!

Die-na-mite

Hi!  Welcome back.  The new challenge at The Funkie Junkie Boutique starts to day Tera is hosting and it is called Die-na-mite!

Here is how she describes it:

"Dies can make a simple or boring project extra mighty... I want you to Use your dies to make a project! They can be your main focus or work in the background to make your piece mighty."

The new Halloween Ephemera from Idea-Ology and Tim Holtz has been sitting on my desk and this moon fellow has been smiling at me through the packaging.  I couldn't resist him.

Previously I was working on a project that left me with two leftover moth die cuts.  I decided to use them with the handsome moon and create a take off of the song. "Fly me to the Moon".

The background started with embossing with the distress grit.  I added a layer of antique linen and Hickory smoke over the surface.  After all that dried a few strips of film strip and tissue tape finished the background.

I finished with the stamped sentiment and the cut out of the words.

I hope this has you thinking about what you could use your die cuts to inspire!

Triple the Heat

Welcome back to another fun challenge at The Funkie Junkie Boutique!  I am hosting this time and I called the challenge Triple the Heat.

Here is the challenge description:

"August is always very hot for us in the Midwest. Our temperature can raise into the three digit numbers. I decided to use the number 3 as the inspiration for this challenge. I challenge you to use 3 of a kind.  You could use just three colors (white and black excluded), three of the same type of embellishment, three of the same images...  you decide how to incorporate the three of a kind in your project.  Make sure to mention what your three of a kind is in your post."

If you love something why not triple it up!  I got the new Sizzix Impresslit Butterfly and fell in love with them.  I started cutting multiple versions of the butterfly.  Perfect for a triple display of these beauties!

I love building a triptych especially when you have something you love like these beautiful butterflies!

I started by cutting three house shapes.  I then cut out a series of butterflies from an old music book for beginning clarinet.

The sheets of music were cut to fit onto the fronts and backs of the little houses.  I then added a design tape along the top and bottom to trim out the music. The panels were brought together with clear design tape.   I cut out the different butterflies and were edged in gold and accented with gold embossed buttons and twine.

Then an old broken chain from a necklace was highlighted with gold along with some safety pins to drape between the houses. The mini flair were edged in gold and attached to the topic.  The sentiments were stamped and embossed in gold.

I hope you are inspired to triple it  up and join us in the fun!

The overall winner will be offered the chance to be a guest designer at a future date at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog, and everyone who enters and follows the rules will be entered into the drawing for the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. Shimmering Summer Fun

Welcome back to a summery Funkie Junkie challenge.   Janna is the host for The Funkie Junkie Challenge Shimmering Summer Fun!’   Here is how she describes the challenge:

"Use bright summer colors in your project and add some shimmer, shine, or sparkle to it. Does summer make you think of sparkling blue oceans, family vacations, or flowers in full bloom? We want to know, so add some shimmer to your cards, tags, scrapbook pages, and journal spreads. Happy crafting!"

I decided some beautiful yellows, oranges and white would bring on the heat.

I created a vignette shrine with some beautiful shimmery summery background.

I used a mix of inks to ink up a watercolor paper background and line the inside of the shrine.

The flowers were also cut from the same background paper and the paper flowers were dipped and soaked in the inky goodness.

For my shimmer I added splatters of shimmery white spray and little gems.  I hope this has you inspired to play along with us!

The overall winner will be offered the chance to be a guest designer at a future date here at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog, and everyone who enters and follows the rules will be entered into the drawing for the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. There are also Top 3 Badges for three additional outstanding entries, chosen by the Design Team.

Funkie and Frilly

I am back with the newest challenge from The Funkie Junkie Boutique!  Teri has challenged us to a Funkie and Frilly Challenge!

Here is how she describes it:

"Make a frilly project - add some lace, buttons and other fun embellishments."

This gives you lots of opportunities to explore!  I am calling my project "Broken Promises".  I was thinking about all the mementos kept from lost love.

I jotted down some thoughts of things that would be kept.  I thought of faded flowers, love letters, tickets, and trinkets.

I started with the lovely tapestry stamp.  I inked it up in a soft pink color and repeated the pattern.  Then I decided to go outside and find some roses to dry and add to my project.  I had just trimmed back the roses yesterday so I didn't have anything already faded.  I decided to clip off a stem with a bunch of buds and blooming mini roses.

I googled how to dry them in the microwave.  It was so easy and took me three minutes.  Basically you just place the flower between two pieces of paper towels place a heavy dish that is microwave safe.  Set the power to defrost and heat it for 1 minute.  Remove the flower and check if it is dry.  If not put it back in and repeat at 30 second intervals.

When I finished that the flowers didn't match my background so I switched my ink to seedless preserves and got a perfect match.

I then pulled out a frame cut previously from gold and decided to accent everything in gold.  I stamped a love letter on a piece of tissue paper.  I crinkled it up and sponged a little distress ink and gold highlights.

After everything was layered together I mounted the card on the ivory cardstock.

I even took the heart and embossed in gold embossing powder.  The ribbons, lace and twine were sponged with gold ink.

A close up of the flowers and how they dried so beautifully.
Hopefully this has you inspired to join us in the challenge!  The overall winner will be offered the chance to be a Guest Designer at a future date at The Funkie Junkie Boutique blog, and everyone who enters and follows the rules will go into the draw for the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. There are also Top 3 Badges for three additional outstanding entries, chosen by the Design Team.

Silly and Sassy Summer

There is a new challenge - Silly and Sassy Summer at The Funkie Junkie Boutique!  Tera is challenging us to be Silly or Sassy!  Here is how she describes the challenge:

"Is the summer heat making you feel silly, sassy or snarky? Let use see your silly snarky side. Make a funny, silly, or snarky project showing us a bit of funky or frilly"

I don't mind a bit of sass and decided to create a series of sassy cards to share with my sassy friends!

I started with a masterboard created by doing the following:

1. Embossed script using crackle embossing paste on white cardstock.  I randomly embossed over an 8 1/2 x 11" piece of cardstock.

2. While that was still wet I sprayed on layers of distress oxide and distress ink sprays along with a shimmer Izink spray.

3. Let dry.

4. Pour spots of paint onto a craft mat in dark pink and light pink. Spritz with shimmery white spray.

5. Place inky side down of background onto pink paint randomly.

6. After dry I doodled flowers over the background.

I used a variety of paper dolls and snarky chit chat to add my sass.

I love the vintage photos because they didn't smile in many of them and they look so serious and gives them extra attitude.

These little ATC's are perfect to send out to my sassy friends as a little pick me up.

Please come join us and share your silly or sassy summer.  Everyone who enters and follows the rules will go into the draw for the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. There are also Top 3 Badges for three additional outstanding entries, chosen by the Design Team.
