Time

A Vintage Journey is hosting a special numbers challenge. It had me thinking about special numbers coming up this year. I have a few special numbers this year and decided to showcase one of them on a card for the challenge.

I started playing with the seedless preserves distress stain spray and ended up with purple fingers and hands!  But oh what a lovely color.  I mixed it in with the yellow Mustard seed.  I decided to pullout a clock die cut representing the passage of time.

The Lint Trap

The challenge this week at   Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge  is "No Rules".  You can link up anything creative that you have been working on this week.  I decided to empty the lint trap on my desk which holds odds and ends that I pick up form the laundry, around the house or in the seat cushions.  I basically have started holding onto bits and pieces that get broken or crushed and putting them into a sweet antique mini salt dish.

I pulled out a large envelope and decided to create a mixed media mail art project.

The background started with a coat of gesso.  AFter it dried I laid down the bits and pieces in my lint trap.  I then layered that with a coat of gesso.  Mixed in with my gesso was a sprinkling of mini star sequins.

I added a mix of yellow and pink distress stain sprays.  I die cut the sizzix layering butterfly and embossed it and added the same mix of colors.
The rest was adding idea-ology remnant rub ons over the surface.

Hero Arts 2015 Spring Catalog Blog Hop

Welcome to the Hero Arts Hostess Blog hop where there is beautiful inspiration from my fellow Hero Hostesses using the new Hero Arts Spring 2015 release. If you’ve been following along, you’ve just arrived from Emily's fantastic blog

Hero Arts will be awarding prizes from randomly drawn comments. For a chance to win, simply comment on ANY of the stops along the hop on ANY day, including each day’s starting post at the Hero Club Blog. The more comments you leave, the better your chance of winning!

I was lucky enough to play with a few different sets and created a few different projects to share. I started with the new Stamp land Cut Butterfly
I mixed one of my favorite Hero Arts stamp the Dandelion Seed along with the new Stamp and Cut Butterfly.  I also mixed in a touch of the succulents from the Stamp your Own Succulent.

I had so much fun with that butterfly that I decided to create a small set of cards and framed the butterfly with the new Engraved Frame stamp.

I mixed in a few different sentiments into my mini cards.
I used the Hello sentiment from the Dauber Bunch Set on my next card.
My butterflies were stamped on pattern paper and colored with copics to give a different effect for each one.
Now it is time to hop along to the next stop on the Hero Arts Hostess Blog Hop which you are in for a big treat because it is the extremely talented Tiffany Ervin

Live your Dream with Passion

Oh Fusion Card Challenge you had me at "Teal, Orange and Brown".  What a fabulous color combination!  My inspiration for today's card were the colors and the flourish stencil I used as the base.

The challenge also shares a sketch which I didn't use but had a lovely graphic design.  Something to be kept in mind for the future.  I used the layering stencil form Tim Holtz called flourish with the antique linen dye ink.

I colored the butterfly with my STAEDTLER karat aquarell watercolor pencils.  The butterfly and sentiment are Stampers Anonymous

Paradise

The challenge this week at   Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge  is Paradise.  I took this inspiration and created a layout for our older dog Harry who left us this summer to move onto his own paradise.  He was slowly declining over a long time and it was tough losing him this summer and wanted to do a layout in remembrance of him.

 I started with kraft 12 x 12 cardstock.

I just received two sets from Simon Says Stamp which focus on our pets.  One is a stamp set remembering our lost pets and the other was a stencil set of paw prints.

I decided to sponge on paw prints in the background which I decided to make like clouds by pairing them up.  I used a white chalk ink to try to get a soft cloud like effect.

I then mixed up and dripped blue spray over the back.  I cut strips of pattern paper to use behind the picture and gave them the same spray mix treatment.

To offset the kraft and the blue I stamped the sentiments all in brown on white and created banners to place around the layout.   I finished with a whimsical piece of twine.

Here is Harry and our other puppy basking in the sun last summer.

Secret Garden

Hi!  Happy Valentine's Day!  All my valentines are done and distributed and I already shared them with you all!  My desk took a hit last week with three different projects and I finally cleared it off today.  That gave me a fresh desk and creative palette to play along with the Vintage Journey Tic Tac Toe challenge.  The challenge is you get to choose which row you want to play along with.  I dillied and dallied between two and ended up playing along with the Ephemera, Sprays and Texture fades.  (I just received two new Texture fades and was happy to pull them out and play with them.)

I started with the panel and laid down the rub-ons on white cardstock this was on Tim's tags last year and I love how it leaves the white behind the images.  I then blended the sprays together (Ranger Distress Stain Spray - Broken China, Heidi Swapp Color Shine) over the surface.  I felt like it looked like a garden and needed an image in the middle.  I  cut out the Found Relatives image and placed her in the Secret Garden.

I added a few swirls with paint.  Then I decided to place it in a house shape using the new Texture Fades on the house which is a light cardboard.
I finished it off with a metal embellishment and a few more rub-ons.

Products: Ranger Distress Stain Spray - Broken China, Heidi Swap Color Shine - Mustard, Idea-ology - Botannical Remnant Rubs, Life Quotes - Remnant Rubs, Tim Holtz Layering Stencil Flourishes, Texture Fades -  Typewriter, Tim Holtz Idea-ology Found Relatives

Unseen Presence

I needed a quick sympathy card earlier this week and had the new Stampers Anonymous flowers on my desk. I did a quick card using them and a Verses Rubber Stamps Gently Lovingly sentiment.

I always struggle with the Sympathy as I feel it should be very simple but I so wanted to add a butterfly. Too much white space for me.  I think it was a nice simple card and hopefully will bring some solace to the family.

Time to Enjoy

No real theme today other than sneaking in a little creativity here and there.  This was something I played around with last week. I had all my lovely Darkroom Door stamps sitting on my desk and decided to play with a color scheme of gray, yellow and orange.  The blue snuck in as it was supposed to be a lovely lavender.

I stamped the background with the damask and then added a touch of the script in a pale ochre color.  The bird and background are stamped in varying shades of gray and then I added blue highlights.

I stamped the bird twice once on the background and a second time to color and cut the body and place over the original bird.

Lots of Love

From gold to pink, white to red it is Valentine’s week.  This week the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge  is for you to be inspired by  the traditional colors associated with it. Are you a red or pink person? You’re welcome to use both together, other Valentine’s type colors, or even your favorite color palette that incorporates one or both of these colors!

I started with pink paint on a kraft background and the card started to form from there.
I painted a series of kraft tags with pink acrylic paint.  After they dried I stamped the background with the Stampers Anonymous Valentines words.

I then continued with stamping cupid and another tag with the small words and layered it out with hearts and buttons.

Birthdays Birthdays

February and March are big birthday months in our family.  I ended up buying ahem all my January cards because I got so far behind.  That meant me getting pro-active and creating cards early for this month.  Both are challenging for me as one is for a nephew turning thirteen and the other is for my niece who is turning 18.

For my nephew I was looking for a grungy mixed media effect using basketball as the focus.  He plays on multiple teams. I used the Graphic 45 sports stamps for the images.  The background uses a mix of the DarkRoom Door stamps.

For my niece I followed the same grungy style but mixed in stars and music.
I was trying for a new color mix of lavender, gray and yellow.  I might re-work this one as it didn't fly with my daughters.  I still have time. :)

Well that is all I have to share today. I am busy working on a few different projects for future shares and I will be back tonight with the new Simon Says Stamp Challenge!

Love Tag

It's a brand new month which means Tim Holtz has a new tag for the month and it is right up my ally.  Tim's February tag is a layering of pretty papers and embellishments celebrating Love.

I have been wanting to play with layering papers and images and I loved it although it took me 3 days to get it finished with the embellishments.  I didn't quite have all the pieces on hand that Tim used so I improvised.
I used paper from Tim's Wallflower Paper and layered them with a touch of watercolor shadowing around the edges.  I stamped a bit of the love letter from Stampers Anonymous.  I stamped the word Love onto a piece of manila tag and added a few hole punches with brads.

I created my frame, arrow and heart by die cutting the shapes in chipboard and then embossing in Stampendous Aged Bronze Embossing Enamel.   The heart was canvas and died with a mix of Ranger Distress Stain Sprays.

Mixed Media Hearts

Howdy, Hi and Hello!  Happy to see you!   The  Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge  this week is to be inspired by the letter "H".  With Valentine's day sneaking up on us I was drawn to hearts for my letter "H" inspiration. There are so many different ways to interpret this challenge and if you join in and play with us there is always a chance for a $50 gift voucher at Simon Says Stamp

I have been playing with messy backgrounds quite a bit lately.  Mixing in the sprays and the paints and stamping.
This background actually I created a while ago and loved the colors and effect and set it aside to come back to. It seemed a nice combination of colors for Valentine's so out it came from my scrap folder. It is a mix of sprays dripped and mixed with water. and then a splattering of sprays and paint over the top.

I added a touch of tissue tape in the center.  I traced the big heart with watercolor pencils and then added the second heart and softened both with a waterbrush.

After that I stamped the letters using ranger archival ink and added he little tags with the pin. I love how this turned out.

Products: Simon Says Stamp Sketched Alphabet, Ranger Distress Stain Sprays - Picked Raspberries, Spiced Marmalade  White acrylic paint, Impression Obsession Mini Rectangle Dies, Twine, Idea-Ology - Wire Pins, Idea-Ology - Symphony Tissue Tape , Memory Box Cherub Heart Dies, Idea-Ology Seasonal Chit-Chat Ranger Archival InkWaterbrush

Love #36

A quick valentine share for the Fusion Heartful challenge

I used a pretty stencil and a soft misting of blue and pink together.  I stamped the no 36 and added a touch of twine and sequins.  This was a lot of white space for me. :)

Happy Sunday!
