Happy Wednesday! Today I am sharing my creation for the Frilly and Funkie Challenge "Something Old". The challenge is hosted by Jenny and she describes the challenge as:
"I'm sure, like me, there will be
lots of you who love all things vintage and enjoy nothing more than
discovering old and unwanted treasure at thrift shops and junk markets.
The challenge this time is to use something old either as the basis of
your project or as an addition to your vintage or shabby chic creation."
This challenge had me digging through my assorted collection and I came across a bag of dominoes.
I decided to play with creating domino charms. They can easily be drilled with a little hole to hang on a pendant or turned into a domino book cover.
I created three different ones to try out a few different ideas:
I painted the surfaces with white paint. I then used the blue distress oxide to coat the surface and then embossed with clear embossing powder to create a pretty blue background. I then stamped the seahorse with some letters using black ink on tissue paper. I decoupaged it to the blue background. After that I embossed the edges with a gold embossing powder and finished with a smattering of crushed gold glitter.
Next up was an art deco domino.
I stamped the image on white cardstock using black ink. I then added a little highlight with watercolor pencils and a waterbrush. I then sealed the image using versamark and multiple coats of clear embossing powder.
For my final I went back to my favorite butterflies.
I was pleased with my little collection of dominoes and will think of how to build them out in a necklace or into a book.
And the original domino front and back that were the starting point for my collection:
Back:
Pull out that little something old that you have been wanting to incorporate in a project and share with us!
The team will choose their top four picks with the winner being invited
to join us in a Guest DT spot here at Frilly and Funkie and the next
three will receive badges to display on their blogs. Everyone who enters
and follows the rules will be entered into the draw to have the chance
to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

Graduation Time
Hi! I have not been creating at all we have had a very busy few months. Lot's of graduations, moving people, school finishing up and work. I do have one graduation card to share. I made a batch of them and this was the best of the bunch.
I have to admit that I started from a card I purchased at the store for one of the many graduations happening this month.
The store bought card had a beautiful variation of colors on the card face with a beautiful overlay of acetate with words and images in white on top of the colors in the background. I tried to emulate the same effect on my card.
I started with a splattered background mixing sprays on craft mat and picking them up onto paper. I then worked on the acetate overlay. I had the hardest time getting a good white image on the front of the card. I used a variety of techniques and ended up with stamps and white ink.
Next I went back and stamped in purple ink the images on the card surface. The quote is from Verse Rubber Stamps. The images are from Stampendous. The stars on the acetate are from Darkroom Door.
Happy Stamping!

Love you to the Moon and Back
Happy Wednesday to you! Today is Funkie time! The current challenge at the Frilly and Funkie Challenge is hosted by Linda and is "The Sound of Music". Linda describes the challenge as:
"I will be in Key West for the annual Songwriters' Festival. I thought it would be fun to create something vintage or shabby chic that tells what music means to you and/or to depict a favorite song."
The guidelines for entering are simple; create a new vintage or shabby chic project following the challenge theme, link it below to your post (not just your blog) and also include a link back to this challenge in your post. You can combine our challenge with up to 10 challenges (including this one) to be in with a chance of winning. If you are entering through a public forum (such as Instagram) you'll need to include the words Frilly and Funkie Challenge. Also, please be sure to turn off your Word Verification so our Design Team can leave comments on your blogs. Make sure you follow these rules as unfortunately we have had to eliminate entrants from the prize draws in the past.
Music and songs to me always are tied to certain memories, feelings or times in my life. I love a good ballad or a set of lyrics and was rolling through a variety of ideas and inspiration. I settled on one of the Disney songs which I spent plenty of time listening too with my kids in the car.
My inspiration was the Phil Collins song for the Disney movie Tarzan. I loved the scene when the mother gorilla bonds with the lost baby and they play the song "You'll be in my Heart". It just reminded me of how we all protect our children and I associate this with my youngest.
I started with a round of misting and spraying the mists along the top and letting them roll down the mixed media paper.
I then drew my heart. I used a scrap piece of paper and folded it in half to create a stencil to trace. I used watercolor pencil and a waterbrush to create the black shape and then white paint and brush to add the inner white circle.
I added some musical notes with the stencil and black embossing paste. I sponged spots using the stencil and black dye ink.
I stamped the sentiment and highlighted with white gel pen. A sweet image from the paper dolls layered over a vellum pocket with a touch of tape, flowers and ribbon to finish it off.
Come play along and share your love of music. The team will choose their top four picks with the winner being invited to join us in a Guest DT spot here at Frilly and Funkie and the next three will receive badges to display on their blogs. Everyone who enters and follows the rules will be entered into the draw to have the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique.
Thanks for stopping by!

Believe in Magic
Happy Wednesday! I am thrilled to share a special project for the Frilly and Funkie Challenge "Put on Your Inking Cap". Kathy challenged us to:
"For this challenge we are asking you to create a vintage or shabby chic project without using any designer paper. You can use inks, mists, paints, texture paste, fabric, felt, embossing powders, pencils, markers, pastels, chalks...the sky is the limit! As long as you are not using designer paper on the front of your project, you are golden."
The design team was also lucky enough to have a journal that Eileen Hull generously donated. The HeARTfelt Journal cover sets gave us each a chance to play with a Traveler's Notebook style journal.
I kept thinking of spring colors and wanted to use my new Distress Oxide inks to do some blending and inking.
I created an ombre effect with wilted violet blending into worn lipstick onto spiced marmalade finishing off with fossilized amber.
I pulled out a variety of pieces all blended with the same colors. I had to pull out a dragonfly stamp which became the inspiration for all the various pieces.
What really happened was I created many orphan bits from trying to design my cover. Which was a lovely surprise because as I opened up the journal and though about the inside I decided to take all the pieces that didn't work for the cover and build out the inside pages.
I love that I could take the leftovers and pull them together with more fun touches and details and add them to the inside.
I folded over some pieces and created a tri-fold and inked up some favorite stamps to add additional images.
I even pulled out the black embossing paste and stenciled bits and pieces in various places.
This was an excellent way to showcase bits leftover from various projects and to use my favorite sentiments.
I also can add to the journal as the strings/elastic strings used to hold the pages in allow me to expand and add more and more to the journal as the inspiration hits me.
