"I will be in Key West for the annual Songwriters' Festival. I thought it would be fun to create something vintage or shabby chic that tells what music means to you and/or to depict a favorite song."
The guidelines for entering are simple; create a new vintage or shabby chic project following the challenge theme, link it below to your post (not just your blog) and also include a link back to this challenge in your post. You can combine our challenge with up to 10 challenges (including this one) to be in with a chance of winning. If you are entering through a public forum (such as Instagram) you'll need to include the words Frilly and Funkie Challenge. Also, please be sure to turn off your Word Verification so our Design Team can leave comments on your blogs. Make sure you follow these rules as unfortunately we have had to eliminate entrants from the prize draws in the past.
Music and songs to me always are tied to certain memories, feelings or times in my life. I love a good ballad or a set of lyrics and was rolling through a variety of ideas and inspiration. I settled on one of the Disney songs which I spent plenty of time listening too with my kids in the car.
My inspiration was the Phil Collins song for the Disney movie Tarzan. I loved the scene when the mother gorilla bonds with the lost baby and they play the song "You'll be in my Heart". It just reminded me of how we all protect our children and I associate this with my youngest.
I started with a round of misting and spraying the mists along the top and letting them roll down the mixed media paper.
I then drew my heart. I used a scrap piece of paper and folded it in half to create a stencil to trace. I used watercolor pencil and a waterbrush to create the black shape and then white paint and brush to add the inner white circle.
I added some musical notes with the stencil and black embossing paste. I sponged spots using the stencil and black dye ink.
I stamped the sentiment and highlighted with white gel pen. A sweet image from the paper dolls layered over a vellum pocket with a touch of tape, flowers and ribbon to finish it off.
Come play along and share your love of music. The team will choose their top four picks with the winner being invited to join us in a Guest DT spot here at Frilly and Funkie and the next three will receive badges to display on their blogs. Everyone who enters and follows the rules will be entered into the draw to have the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique.
