Celebration

Mojo Monday is having a celebration. This week is their 300th post!  Julee always has inspiring sketches and I love to use the Mojo Monday sketches to help my design skills. I used the Mojo Monday sketch to help kick-start one of my many birthday cards needed for this month.

 My nephew loves wildlife and nature. I had Mr. Owl sitting on my desk and thought he might be okay for a masculine card.  I stamped him up on a glimmer misted glossy cardstock. The La Blanche stamps with the fine details work best with a Versafine ink on a glossy cardstock. I ended up actually heat setting the ink to get it to dry.  La Blanche also has some beautiful cardstock which works wonderfully with their stamps and distress inks.  I just can't keep my cardstock straight and it was easier to identify my glossy cardstock. :)

I glimmer misted coordinating pieces of regular cardstock in the background and ran them through the embossing folder. They received a sponging of colors and a tiny bit of stamping of script over the surface.  I stamped the Happy Birthday using black ink on a coordinating piece of scrap cardstock.

When I finished the design I realized my Owl needed a party hat.  Mr. Owl declined a party hat but said he was willing to wear a crown.  I obliged with a crown stamped on the same misted glossy cardstock.

Peace, Hope and Love

This week the Simon Says Stamp and Show challenge is Tim's Tags. One of my favorite tags is Tim's Tag 12 from last year. His tag inspired my Peace, Hope and Love tag.   

I was drawn to Tim's tag because of the soft hues of blue and then the tissue paper background and the overall serene effect of the tag.

My tag background started with tissue tape to emulate Tim's tissue paper background.  I added a touch of white acrylic paint and light blue acrylic paint over the tissue tape.  I added a touch of stamped text.  I stamped flourishes around the edges.

The angel was stamped on another piece of cardstock and colored with my watercolor pencils and waterbrush.  I covered the image with Versamark Ink and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.


I cut my house, embossed with an embossing folder and added a touch of blue and silver around the edges.

Sparkle

My mother had a fondness for vintage holiday decorations.  She even kept some of her Christmas decorations out  year round in her China Cabinet.  This week's challenge at Simon's Says Stamp and Show, is sparkle.  The thought of shimmer brought back memories of my mother's decorations and inspired my project this week: 

 

I started with a metal star that I had in my alterable pile.  I think that the  new Tim Holtz Sizzix 3D Star would be perfect for this as well.

  

I covered the star with an old sewing pattern to get a thin tissue paper effect on the surface. I mixed the  glue  with water and painted the surface of the star.  I then tore pieces of the pattern and applied it to the surface. After I applied a layer I painted more glue/water mixture over the surface. I repeated until the surface was covered with multiple layers.  

 

 This is the first piece applied with leaving the paper hanging over the edges. 

I folded over the edges and turned them under when I finished applying all the layers. 

 

 After the glue dried on the pieces. I added a layer of green dye ink onto the paper.  I then smeared Adirondack Pearl acrylic paint onto the surface. It gave it a beautiful sheen. 

 

The next step was to stamp the beautiful La Blanche Santa image onto white cardstock and color with a touch of watercolor pencils.  I diecut the image using a circle die.  I sponged the edges of the circle using green dye ink.  I used score tape around the edge of the circle.

I added buttons around the edges of the circle and layered in shimmery green leaves from a branch of faux silk leaves.

To finish off my shimmer I used the same score tape around the edges of the star and sprinkled Stampendous Green Crushed Glass Glitter to the edges.

Owls

Another couple of entries for the Simon Says Stamp and Show your background. I love creating backgrounds. I started with the beautiful Owl stamp from La Blanche.  I stamped it several times and pulled a few scrap pieces from my scrap pile of backgrounds I had created previously and never used.

My first card is done in oranges, touches of yellow and brown: 

 The backgrounds are both Hero Arts stamps. (Artistic Windows, I tried finding the second one and I think it must be retired) The sentiment is from Stampscapes Nature Plate B.  They have the most lovely plates full of verses to go with their stamps.  I have one plate and have used it so many times.
 
My second card started from a green and blue background:

The sentiment is from the same Stampscapes Plates. The background is stamped with Hero Arts Old French Writing stamp.  The owl stamp was stamped onto the background first but didn't pop enough so I re-stamped onto tissue paper. Then glued it over the original image with a combination of water and glue.  I was still able to color the image and background with watercolor pencils and waterbrush.

This was my first time using the La Blanche images. I have been wanting to try them after seeing them at CHA. Their designer at the show is a brilliant artist and so inspiring. The details on their stamps are fantastic.
