Magic

Ho Ho Ho it's magic, you know never believe it's not so... I have that song going through my mind because of the challenge this week at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge   is Magic. When I heard the challenge was magic it brought to mind the wax paper resist technique.  I taught a class using wax paper techniques and one of the ladies declared it was magic when the color was applied and magically the resist shows up.

Here is the batch of backgrounds made from my session of playing with the wax paper:

and here is my finished card:

To create the background:

First you emboss the wax paper using an embossing folder.  I did a bunch of different embossed wax papers using different folders.

The next step is to take the wax paper and place it between two pieces of white cardstock.  Heat up your iron.  I set the heat on the iron to a cotton setting.  After it heats up you are going to iron the sandwiched wax paper  between the cardstock for about a minute moving the iron around over the surface to keep it from overheating. Typically I do this on a folded up towel because I don't want to pull out the ironing board. Whatever works best for you. :)

After you finish this you will have a nice resist on your paper that you can color with mists, or distress inks.    If you stamp before you put the resist on you can have a stamped image under the resist.

Onto the magic.  Apply dye inks to the surface using a sponge applicator randomly. Voila the embossed image will magically appear.  After you finish putting all the dye ink take a paper towel or kleenex and buff off the dye ink on the waxy surface.

Here is my finished panel. I decided to add a speckling of white paint over the surface.  I put white acrylic paint down with a mix of water which I picked up on a brush and flicked over the surface.

The rest was a mix of white die cuts blended together to create an aviary scene.

A few others:

This was ironed onto a page from a book and sponged with brown dye ink.

I also like to use the leftover embossed wax paper and I took two of the leftover wax pieces and painted them with a mix of paint sprays.

I added a piece of vellum with a sentiment to finish these off as cards.

I'm back....

I went to CHA and had tremendous fun... I unfortunately did not take pictures! I spent most of my time doing make and takes for the store I was representing.

I also have some exciting news. I am going to be teaching classes at my local stamp store! They asked me if I would teach a few classes and now I am working on cards for the classes!

Here is something I have been playing with today. The background is made using a resist technique.

Wax Paper Embossing

For the Resist This! challenge on SOF... I took some regular wax paper that you use in the kitchen to do a resist on glossy paper. I took the wax paper on some of the pieces and ran them through the Cuttlebug embossing folder. After I finished using the embossed wax paper for the resist I thought the embossed wax paper looked like vellum.

I decided to use two of the embossed wax paper sheets. I colored on the reverse side in the embossed surface on one. On the other I tried to brush my versamark ink pad on the raised surface and heat emboss.

I am sharing a card I made from the heat emboss technique.

The recipe on this was so simple. I did cuttlebug emboss the wax paper and the brown carstock it is mounted on. I heat embossed with enchanted gold embossing powder after I smeared versamark on the ridges. I also heat embossed my butterfly to match.

Yoo Whoo.... SOF Party Continues...

This is a bunch of challenges in one for SOF... Here is the master thread for all the challenges: http://www.twopeasinabucket.com/mb.asp?cmd=display&thread_id=2661997 . One of the challenges is to case someone. The card I cased is linked here: http://www.twopeasinabucket.com/pg.asp?set=recent&gallery=3&cmd=display&layout_id=1398353

The challenges I am linking this to are: Get inspired, Cut it Out, Cuttlebug and Resist This.

The owls are cut out. The inspiration is the card I cased. The resist is a wax paper resist technique.

I have never tried this so I was very excited when Daria raised this as a challenge. She also showed multiple examples of the the papers she created.

I created multiple sheets of the wax paper resist backgrounds, so don't be surprised if you see them coming back. Including the cuttlebug wax paper resist.

Recipe:
  1. The background the owls are stamped on is from a wax paper resist. I started with a piece of wax paper. I layed it on my new scor-pal (thanks Lisa.. a lovely birthday gift from my good stamping buddy) and I scored lines vertically and for part of the page I also scored horizontally.
  2. I took the score wax paper and placed it between 2 pieces of glossy cardstock with the glossy surface facing in on both pieces. I then covered it with a thin towel. I ironed on a medium setting with no steam. I had to iron for a few minutes.
  3. The beauty of this is you get two effects the cardstock on the bottom and the cardstock on the top. One of them will get a much softer impression.
  4. After I ironed and I could see the pattern on my cardstock, I took it back to the craft table and used my dye ink to smear over the surface. The owls and the owl background are smeared on the same sheet of cardstock but I used multiple colors to see what I liked the best. I buffed the excess ink off using a paper towel.
  5. Stamp the owls on the brown resist background with StazOn.
  6. Cut out the owls. Attach black gems for eyes and put white on the black gems with gel pen.
  7. Everything else was just cutting and rounding corners. Nothing too special.
