Sew Sweet

Welcome back to another fun Funkie Junkie Boutique Challenge!  This time the challenge is called "Sew Sweet"  and is hosted by the talented Cec.  Here is how she describes the challenge:

"Create a shabby chic or vintage project with a sewing theme incorporating items and/or images related to sewing - think rubber stamps of sewing machines or dress forms e.g., fabric, pattern tissue and even notions such as buttons, zippers, thread, etc."

I decided to go a different route and use the professor and layer him  up with some sewing embellishments.

I created the background on the card by spritzing some leather cardstock with antique linen spray.

After it dried I sponged on brown dye ink using the stencil.  While it was wet I heat embossed with embossing glaze.

I wanted to show you how the embossing glaze adds texture and depth of color.  I stamped the same image in brown archival ink and then sprinkled on the embossing glaze.

You can see the paper wasn't dry from my first coat of antique linen spray so the entire image was glazed with the embossing glaze.  It made it much more rich in color.

I ended up creating various pieces and created two cards with my tailor? :) .  The background faded type is stamped on a pattern paper from a robe pattern.

I pulled from the snaps, ribbon spools and safety pins to accent my cards.

I hope you can play along and share your sewing goodies!  The winner will earn a chance to be a Guest Designer at a future date at The Funkie Junkie Boutique blog, and everyone who enters and follows the rules will go into the draw for the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. There are also Top 3 Badges for three additional outstanding entries, chosen by the Design Team.

Please keep safe!

Mother's Love

Hi!  Welcome back to another fabulous challenge at The Funkie Junkie Boutique!  Today's challenge is hosted by Sara Emily and she has challenged us to create inspired by "A Mother's Love".  Here is how she describes the challenge:

"A mother's love can mean so many different things to different people. With this challenge I invite you to take some time to reflect on what it means for you and create a vintage or shabby chic project for your mother or a special woman in your life to let them know how much you love them. Be sure your project has the word "love" somewhere on it where it will be noticed."

A perfect challenge with Mother's Day peeking around the corner and a way for us to highlight how our mother's inspire, challenge, teach, and just love us with all their heart.

My mom may not have been able to always show her love in the ways that maybe other moms did, but she did love us with all her heart.   This inspired a mix of stamping and layering to collage a mother inspired hearts and love.  One of my mother's favorite expressions was "You make me Happy in my Heart" when we had done something special for her.  I always try to showcase that with a few heart related images.

This card started with the stamped circle in a soft distress oxide gray.   I layered design tape and then added the pops of candied apple red with the stamped circles.

Next I hand cut a series of hearts and stamped them with text and coordinating red ink.   I added a sweet sentiment cut and staggered.  I finished with 29 as a remembrance to my mom.

I hope this has you inspired to come join us in the challenge.

Handwritten Script

I have always loved handwritten script. Stamps or stencils they all give a layer of texture and depth to a background.  This post is highlighting a new large stencil from Darkroom door called Handwritten script.

I started with a mix of the handwritten script with a soft green dye ink sponged onto the background.
Then I layered the lavender stencil with white embossing paste.  I let it dry and sponged a soft purple dye ink over the embossing paste.

I stamped the sentiment onto tissue paper and glued it to the front and then added a few vellum dragonflies with some serious bling.

Next up is a card created from journal ledger paper.
The handwritten script was embossed using white embossing paste.  I sprayed and misted brown ink over the background.

I stamped the postcard image onto another scrap from the same journal paper.  I folded it over to create a little pocket.  I stamped a flower to put in the pocket and added a bird and label with the sentiment stamped inside.

My next card was made from scraps. (My favorite kind of way to pull together bits and pieces)

I started with a watery script from cleaning up the stencil.  I layered on a base with the same watery stencil image.

I layered in some labels stamped and cut out previously and added a flower created for the previous card.

Finally a dreamy sunny card using the warm wishes flowers.

This one had a spritzed background using the stencil and a distress oxide ink.  After it dried the flowers were inked up with distress oxide and spritzed with water and stamped.

The sentiments were stamped along the stems and the bees added for movement.

I hope you are all keeping safe and using this time to spend with your family (the ones who are staying at home with you) and crafting.

Aprils Showers Bring May Flowers

Hi!  Today I am sharing my project for the next Funkie Junkie Boutique Challenge called "Aprils Showers Bring May Fowers".

The challenge is hosted by Maggi and here is how she describes the challenge:

"Design a vintage or shabby chic project that incorporates a wet "something" with flowers. Examples: Stenciled or doodled raindrops, water distressed or crumpled paper,  Tim Holtz's Umbrella Man, you get the idea, just have something that represents wet. Then, add some flowers to your project."

I went searching for inspiration on Pinterest.  I saw some beautiful mixed media flowers on a painted canvas.  I decided to try to interpret that into a card that could be sent to someone.

I started with making a background of sponged distress inks.  I wanted to be able to flick water over the surface and give water spots.

I then stamped a little of the ground using a stamp from the new Flower Garden.  I found a bit of textured ribbon that I cut into strips for my stems.  I added a hint of shadowing with some watercolor pencils.

I then took and cut and tore shapes from a stamped inky background and the Stamperia House of roses scraps.  I distressed all edges and sponged with brown dye ink.

I waited a day and decided to add a little bit more to my mixed media pieces:

I was quite pleased with my little flower garden and maybe I will attempt a canvas with large flowers next!

Please use this time to craft and if you are inspired come play along in the challenge with us.

Thanks for stopping by, and I send my thoughts and prayers that everyone is keeping safe and healthy!
