Shimmering Summer Fun

Welcome back to a summery Funkie Junkie challenge.   Janna is the host for The Funkie Junkie Challenge Shimmering Summer Fun!’   Here is how she describes the challenge:

"Use bright summer colors in your project and add some shimmer, shine, or sparkle to it. Does summer make you think of sparkling blue oceans, family vacations, or flowers in full bloom? We want to know, so add some shimmer to your cards, tags, scrapbook pages, and journal spreads. Happy crafting!"

I decided some beautiful yellows, oranges and white would bring on the heat.

I created a vignette shrine with some beautiful shimmery summery background.

I used a mix of inks to ink up a watercolor paper background and line the inside of the shrine.

The flowers were also cut from the same background paper and the paper flowers were dipped and soaked in the inky goodness.

For my shimmer I added splatters of shimmery white spray and little gems.  I hope this has you inspired to play along with us!

The overall winner will be offered the chance to be a guest designer at a future date here at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog, and everyone who enters and follows the rules will be entered into the drawing for the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. There are also Top 3 Badges for three additional outstanding entries, chosen by the Design Team.

Keep cool!

Funkie and Frilly

I am back with the newest challenge from The Funkie Junkie Boutique!  Teri has challenged us to a Funkie and Frilly Challenge!

Here is how she describes it:

"Make a frilly project - add some lace, buttons and other fun embellishments."

This gives you lots of opportunities to explore!  I am calling my project "Broken Promises".  I was thinking about all the mementos kept from lost love.

I jotted down some thoughts of things that would be kept.  I thought of faded flowers, love letters, tickets, and trinkets.

I started with the lovely tapestry stamp.  I inked it up in a soft pink color and repeated the pattern.  Then I decided to go outside and find some roses to dry and add to my project.  I had just trimmed back the roses yesterday so I didn't have anything already faded.  I decided to clip off a stem with a bunch of buds and blooming mini roses.

I googled how to dry them in the microwave.  It was so easy and took me three minutes.  Basically you just place the flower between two pieces of paper towels place a heavy dish that is microwave safe.  Set the power to defrost and heat it for 1 minute.  Remove the flower and check if it is dry.  If not put it back in and repeat at 30 second intervals.

When I finished that the flowers didn't match my background so I switched my ink to seedless preserves and got a perfect match.

I then pulled out a frame cut previously from gold and decided to accent everything in gold.  I stamped a love letter on a piece of tissue paper.  I crinkled it up and sponged a little distress ink and gold highlights.

After everything was layered together I mounted the card on the ivory cardstock.

I even took the heart and embossed in gold embossing powder.  The ribbons, lace and twine were sponged with gold ink.

A close up of the flowers and how they dried so beautifully.
Hopefully this has you inspired to join us in the challenge!  The overall winner will be offered the chance to be a Guest Designer at a future date at The Funkie Junkie Boutique blog, and everyone who enters and follows the rules will go into the draw for the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. Thanks for stopping by!
