All about Love

Hello!  Happy belated Valentine's day!  I am posting about love today for the Funkie Junkie Boutique Inspiration Ave.

I have the wonderful Tim Holtz Sizzix Stacked Tiles Hearts dies  and they were the inspiration for my art this time.

The inspiration was from over 30 hearts cut from white cardstock.  They were all cut out and then spritzed with a mix of pink, yellow, and cranberry mica stain sprays.

They originally were sprayed a few at a time with different colors.  But then I thought wouldn't it be fun if I created a background by layering them onto a sheet of cardstock and spraying layers of colors.

That ended up looking like this.  Then I decided to add another layer of texture and used the Valentine's stencil and opaque distress paste to randomly apply words across the surface.

After that dried, I laid the stencil back over the words and sponged with red distress ink over the letters.

I enjoyed using the hearts in a different way so I created a background using the dies as a mask and overlapped them on each other on a sheet of mixed media paper.

I spritzed over the dies and captured the layered hearts on the background.  Before cleaning the inky spray off of the dies I laid another sheet of mixed media cardstock on top of the dies and picked up the reverse hearts.

After that I took some of the hearts and used another stencil to add a layer of opaque stars randomly over the hearts.  I let the past dry completely and then used the stencil again to sponge on the contrasting ink colors over the stars to make them pop.

Using the hearts with various other pieces a few different Valentines cards were created.
Happy Hearts Day to you!

Frozen

Hi!  Sharing today on The Funkie Junkie Inspiration Blog a few tags celebrating the idea of Frozen!  I decided to play with the Mica Stain Sprays in a frozen color palette.

The tag was created using mica stain spray, ranger opaque distress texture paste and a layering stencil.

 To create the background:

  1. Lay the stencil down on the white cardstock.
  2. Smear the Opaque texture paste over the stencil.
  3. Let the paste dry.  (I let it dry partially so the color blended into the paste)
  4. Spray a mix of the frozen colors (blue and grey) over the surface and add spritzes of water to blend.
  5. Dab off the excess or hold on the side to allow it to drip off.
  6. Let dry completely.
  7. To highlight the shimmer from the sprays an additional coat of clear embossing powder was added over the surface.
  8. Sponge Versamark Ink over the surface.
  9. Cover with clear embossing powder and shake off excess.
  10. Heat up the embossing powder.

The clear embossing highlighted the richness of the mica stain and the shimmer from the stain sprays.  To finish the tag a layer of embellishments with some holiday sticker for the sentiment and a touch of flowery trim for the top.

For the next tag an additional shimmer and iciness was built into the background of the tag.

To create the background of the tag:

  1. Stamp the snowflakes randomly across the surface using Versamark Watermark Ink.
  2. Heat emboss the snowflakes with white or clear embossing powder. (If you use clear you will need to make sure not to spray too much shimmery spray as it can spread under the embossed snowflakes)
  3. Spray the mica stain sprays onto a craft mat and add water.
  4. Drag the stamped background across the inky mat.
  5. Add more spray directly to tag to add more color.
  6. Let the tag completely dry.
  7. Cover the surface of the tag with versamark.
  8. Heat emboss using clear embossing powder.
  9. Repeat the process of the versamark and embossing powder multiple times.
  10. During the final coat while the embossing powder is still liquid sprinkle on rock candy distress glitter. Heat set.

  • After the tag dries you should be able to crack the surface by bending it slightly.  If it doesn't crack add another coat of versamark and embossing powder.
To finish the tag just add the snowflake accents and the paper doll image.

    Thanks for stopping by!
