Snowflakes

Howdy!  I hope you are getting some time off to get ready for the holidays!  I have been busy playing and catching up on Linda the Funkie Junkie 12 tags of Christmas challenge.   This card is based on her beautiful Week# 8 tag.  The challenge is sponsored by her boutique The Funkie Junkie and she is offering prizes for playing along.

Linda's design and snowy background had me thinking of how to create snowflakes and add a banner as my focal point.

I used the snowflake stencil and crackle embossing paste to create a snowy background.  I then used a mix of sprays to create a blue green backdrop. 

I added the vellum banner and then pulled a few die cuts from my scrap pile and finished with a simple sentiment stamped and embossed in the center.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!  I am wishing you all a day filled with family and blessings!

I have two tags today... I have been working on these for awhile and just finished them up.  They are for Linda's 12 Tags of Christmas.  She is hosting this challenge on her blog The Funkie Junkie and the challenge is sponsored by The Funkie Junkie Boutique. 

First up is my tag inspired by her beautiful Week # 7 tag.  I finished my tag before she posted this weeks tag.  My tag has components of her tag from this week. Ha Ha...  

I was inspired by the plaid in green and blue on Linda's Week #7 tag. I wanted to continue that rustic feel and used a green and blue combo which I emphasized with brown drawn stripes.

I then decided to add the reindeer and trees to go with the rustic design.  I added mica snowflakes.

My next tag is a case of Linda's Week #6.  Beautiful red and white snowy tag inspired me to create a pocket tag with snowflake cut-outs.

I cut one piece of cardstock which I scored to create a pocket. I then folded it over to die cut the snowflakes in the front cover.  I lined the inside with acetate to help keep the snowflake flat. 

I stamped the background with Vermilion and a background stamped. I embossed the cover with white embossing pasted sprinkled with crystal glitter while wet.  I masked the snowflakes with the leftover snowflakes to keep the acetate clean of embossing pasted.

A Rustic Christmas

Hi! I am starting to ramp up on Christmas card production and wanted to share a card made recently for Darkroom Door. I had visions of an rustic Christmas with Wood Grain, Snowflakes and a rusty old truck. 

This was a simple process for the background. I stamped with a wood grain stamp in brown ink.  To make it darker for the snowflakes to really pop, I dragged the brown dye ink down the paper.  I then inked up the snowflake background with white acrylic paint. I stamped it and repeated until it was covered in snowflakes.

I stamped the truck and cut it out. I colored with a touch of watercolor.  I then stamped the sentiments and the circle postage stamp.  Behind the truck is a little gold twine, stars and burlap.

Silvery Tag

Happy Saturday!  I hope all your holiday activities are going well and you are getting some time for yourself. :)  I was able to sit down and play a little yesterday.  (Yeah!)  I love color and the Words & Paintery color palettes have had me inspired to try so many different things.  This month's color palette is Gray, Blue and Silver. 

 I actually created a masterboard of these colors blended together and have been playing with different ideas using the pieces.  My first completed project was this tag:

 I started with Ranger Distress Stain Spray Tarnished Pewter, Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist - blue and a white mist.  I blended these together multiple times and this was one of my backgrounds.

I laid down some die cut snowflakes and sponged silver ink over the snowflakes. I then sponged on snowflakes using blue die ink over the stencil.

I then took a holly stencil and sponged over that the darker blue ink.  I outlined with black watercolor pencils and softened it with a water brush.  I stamped the deer using black ink and heat embossed him with black embossing powder to make him pop.

I finished with an old Hero Arts Definition stamp over the background.

Pink, Silver and Gold

Good Morning. 
  I am back today with my tag for Linda's The Funkie Junkie Tags of Christmas  Week # 7(sponsored by her boutique The Funkie Junkie Boutique). A gorgeous blue and silver shimmery tag is what Linda created.  I love the pretty background with the snowflakes and that is what inspired my take on her tag. I started with a scrap of paper I had left over in pink so my color scheme is a little different.  While working on this I also added in texture which works for the Mixed Media Monthly Challenge of Texture and the Mixed Media World - Anything Goes Challenge.

Linda added a beautiful metallic element to her snowflakes. I unfortunately only had silver and gold so I had to gild my snowflakes with gold.  My color scheme became silver, gold and pink.

I started with multiple pink background scraps. I don't even remember the project but it made a lot of leftovers. :)

I then stenciled on the snowflakes using Wendy Vecchi Silver Embossing Paste.  Then I had to wait for drying time.  I used that time to cut snowflakes using different dies and different mediums. (More of the pink background, Silver foil, multi colored backgrounds.

After everything dried I took out my gold leaf and rubbed it on over the snowflakes on all my different backgrounds.

I used my Memory Box Christmas music stamp and added a hint of music in the background with silver and gold ink.

Along the way I was trying to figure out what I wanted as my focal point can I stamped the Madonna and child. 

 I also had this large snowflake which was too big for my tag so I took my bits and pieces and pulled them together into a card. I love how this turned out.

I also had a half piece of pink splotches that I thought would make a great card background.

 I took that and made a card. 

 My last was a white background with the silver and gold and I added hints of pink but didn't finish the tag yet.  It will go back into the scrap pile for future use. :)

Rustic Heart

I am still playing along with Linda's The Funkie Junkie Tags of Christmas and I was late with last weeks tag and can't wait to work on this week's tag as it is a stunner.  Linda's Week # 6(sponsored by her boutique The Funkie Junkie Boutique)  is a charming tag with a gingham tie and pretty tree and holly.  It had me thinking of a rustic Christmas, I followed Linda's design and just swapped out some elements to what I had. I am also going to link this up to the Memory Box Challenge #6 Glitter.  ( I added a few heart gems to brighten up my little tree)

You can't tell it but I cut the hearts and the punched boarders from wood grain products.  I painted the hearts and the border I stained with a dark brown ink.

The background is Iced Spruce over a Memory Box stencil.  The tree is Hero Arts and stamped and then heat embossed with brown embossing powder.  The sentiment are Hero Arts and the music on the hearts is the 12 days of Christmas from Memory Box.

Silvery Snowflakes

I am not looking forward to our first snowflakes but the weather has definitely shifted this week and we are starting to see the cooler temperatures in the early morning hours.  Linda at the Funkie Junkie - Week #1  has kicked off her annual 12 tags of Christmas challenge  which is sponsored by her Funkie Junkie Boutique.  Her tags are always inspirational and this weeks tag is no exception.  The tag is full of  beautiful gold and red poinsettia splendor.  I didn't have the poinsettia stencil so I followed her design with the snowflake theme.

 Linda's tag has some beautiful layering of colors in the background.  I started from another scrap with a mix of colors which I layered over the stenciled silver snowflakes.  They didn't pop enough so I applied a whitewash of paint to soften the background.  That worked to lighten the background but it also whitewashed my snowflakes.  I applied another layer of  the silver embossing paste over the first snowflakes.  I then splattered the background with different sprays and mists.

After all the background paints I too decided like Linda to just let the background shine and only added a few sequins, the sentiment and the die cut snowflakes on the top.

Wintery Branches

I just received a new PaperArtsy set and couldn't wait to ink it up.  The Words and Paintery September colors reminded me of a blustery autumn which fit with the Mixed Media World Autumn Colors Challenge. 

I created a variety of backgrounds with the colors from the challenge and cut down a section of one of them to create a tag.

I loved the mix of colors and the new stamps with the bird and branches fit perfectly with a cold autumn day.

On Wings of Snow

Winter isn’t just coming – it’s fully here! With the holidays behind us and spring seeming so far away, let’s focus on the season at hand. Will you stamp a snowy scene? Try a new use for a snowflake stamp? Perhaps be inspired by the colors of winter in your ink choices… however you decide to get stamping, we hope you’ll join in the  Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge  

You may wonder how I arrived at angel wings but it all started with the beautiful Tim Holtz snowflake Sizzix Layering Die.  I thought how soft and feathery the snowflake looked and the wings of a snow angel were born! 

I started with some hand drawn wings on cardboard.  I then painted them white with gesso to ensure if anything came through it would capture the inks and paint the same way as the snowflakes.

I die cut a blizzard of snowflakes from vellum and then embossed them using the coordinating embossing folder. I cut them in half to apply them to the wing.

Then the layering starts.  I covered the wings with tacky glue over the entire surface.  I then started at the end and put a row of snowflakes.  I continued layering them until the wing was covered. 

After the wings were covered I took white gesso and painted the wings.  Once that dried I sprayed the wings and my heart with lavender and silver mists.

I stamped a sentiment in the center of my heart and added some white splatters.  I painted and sprayed some paper roses to add to the heart and hung my wings onto a hanger.

Yeah it is Thursday and we are almost rolling into the weekend. :)  I have to say I think this is my first holiday card for this  year.  I have made some tags but not a card yet. 

I created a whole piece of cardstock using the Darkroom Door Eclectic Snowflake stamp.  I painted it with white acrylic paint and stamped it on the white cardstock. I repeated the process until I had the whole paper covered.  I let that dry. 

I pulled out a mix of Ranger Distress Sprays and started with Iced Spruce.  I didn't like the color so I kept adding in sprays until I got a lovely dark gray background.  After that dried I splattered with the white, blue and silver sprays.  You can't see it in the photo but the silver is gorgeous dew drops in the light.

After that I cut it into multiple pieces to use on cards and this is the first one cut at an angle, distressed around the edges and accented with the Darkroom Door Wordstrips - Yuletide.
