Boy Oh Boy!

Happy Wednesday!   It's time for the Funkie side of the Frilly & Funkie Design Team to share their art for Jenny's  'Boy oh Boy!' challenge.  For this one we need you to create a vintage or shabby chic project with a man or boy in mind. 

 

The Design Team will choose their top four picks with the winner being invited to join us in a Guest DT spot at Frilly and Funkie and the next three will receive badges to display on their blogs. I have in hand new Stampers Anonymous stamps, stencils and embossing folders. I had fun playing with all the new products!

It all started with this Eiffel Tower that I had created previously and never used.  I decided to build a card with layers featuring masculine colors to showcase the textured tower.

The background is one of the new Stampers Anonymous stamp stamped in gray ink. I then stenciled over it with a brown dye ink. 

I embossed the argyle imprint on foil. I highlighted it with gold and black paints.

I took the globe and cut it out from leftover atlas pages and then sponged black ink to make it pop in the background. I took a leftover fleur de lis charm and added a little ball chain to it for an accent.

Mosaic Butterfly

Good Morning!  #12Tagsof2016! :)  Tim's April tag had me thinking of ideas over the weekend and I finished it up today.  This tag spawned so many pretty spare pieces I am going to have to think of other projects to share them on! 

 Tim's remix re-visited the mosaic technique and the paint resist techniques.   He used a bird die that I don't have so I went back to the butterfly die similar to his original tag.  I love this pretty Graphic 45 paper from the Enchanted Forest collection that I cut up the pieces to use for my mosaic.

I used embossing paste as my base on the chipboard butterfly. I pressed my scraps into the embossing paste.  After I finished I sprinkled the embossing paste with crystal glitter.  I then used glossy accents to highlight the paper on the butterfly. I finished with a zipper for the body.

The background is stamped using the Darkroom Door stamp inked up with acrylic paint. I then used a mix of distress ink sprays (vintage photo, ground expresso, pumice stone) over the surface to show off the resist.

60's Style

Happy Wednesday!   It's time for the Funkie side of the Frilly & Funkie Design Team to share their art for Cec's Hip to be Square challenge  over at Frilly and Funkie. Here's what Cec says about the challenge; "Let's go retro and make a project influenced by the brighter colours and/or images and patterns of the hippie era of the late 1960's/early 1970's. Your project must either be square or include at least one square element.".

I decided bright colors and fun geometric shapes would be my muse for  60's inspired cards.

I thought what is a great way to bring out a tye dye effect with bright colors?  Alcohol Inks of course and I had some brand new Yupo paper I have been wanting to try with the inks and it is fantastic. I have used glossy cardstock before with my Alcohol inks but depending on what type you use you get different results.  The Yupo paper was perfect to use with the Inks.

For my first card I mixed a variety of pinks, yellows, oranges and the blending solution to get a pretty bright background. I then cut it up into different rectangles and squares.  I used the circles to layer in wonky circles and added a touch of tissue tape over the surface. Then I laid it out in a square card.

For my second card I went with darker colors with hints of brighter shades peeking through.

I started with dripping different colors of inks onto the Yupo.  The key to doing this is to cover the background with a light color first so your surface as some alcohol ink base.  Then start dripping drops of color onto the background.  Let them dry between colors.  Then drop the next color and watch it expand.  Then to finish it off you can flick the blending solution over the finished product to get little water bubbles of no color over the surface.

After the background was created I cut out flowers from white cardstock to layer over the background. Creating the background is fun to experiment with different colors and dripping in the different circles.  I warn you it can be quite addictive.

Happy Easter to everyone!  I hope your Easter is filled with family and blessings.

I have a second hand hymn book purchased at my local library for $1.00.  I love it because it has all the songs and music from various hymns. 

 I just opened it up to the Easter section and used a few pages to celebrate the holy day today.
