Food Colors Part II

Back to the rest of the food colors... Again I was pulling out some of my favorite stamps of all time that I haven't used in years. :O

My first food color combination is Eggplant and Ginger.  While watching the cooking shows I was surprised to see that the ginger was a pretty pink color.

 I sponged on the top half a mix of Memento Soft Plum and Lilac.  On the bottom I started with Angel Pink but added Rose Bud into the mix.  I tamped the pussy willows and added highlights with the white gel pen. I also splattered watered down acrylic paint over the surface. I added a layer of splattered goosebumps to add darker water splotches which have a nice sheen to it in the light.  

The next colors were Lemon and Carrot:

I used the layering stencil and sprayed the yellow mist first and then did the orange at an angle to only mist it to the inside of the stencil.  I used Heidi Swapp Color Shine.  I then used the Idea-Ology Rub-Ons Botanical to add the touch of music and words.  I stamped the Stampers Anonymous Cupid over the top and added a touch of pink watercolor pencil shading to his body.  I then punched a bunch of hearts to add the hearts to the background.

Next up is Grapefruit and Cherry

I stamped one of my all time favorite Stampendous stamps the Ranunculus.  The inks were a splattering of white acrylic watered down paint over the background. Then Heidi Swapp Color Shine (soft pink) and then the Dylusions Cherry spray splattered over the top.

The  finish with Blueberry and Plum colors: 

 The inks were the Ranger Distress Stains (Lavender and Broken China).  The image is Stampers Anonymous and the letters on either side are Memory Box.

There is one more food collection of salt and pepper which I have all kinds of ideas for so we will see what I end up with.

Baby

Howdy!  I can't believe it is Wednesday already. I have been playing around with different projects and struggling a bit with finishing projects.  I wanted to try tape transfers of old photos as I had seen a project that was beautiful using a transferred image.

 I had a few pre-printed photos that I had scanned and copied onto cardstock. I pulled them out and used packing tape to cover them and then rubbed off the back of the paper with baby wipes.  I laid the baby wipes onto the cardstock and let it soak in.  I then rubbed off the cardstock using my finger.

 I had taken a page from a book and cut it to the tag shape.  I painted the surface with a touch of white paint.   After it had dried I placed my baby image onto the painted background.  I stamped the butterflies in blue ink and cut them out and attached them with the little crystals.  I stamped the sentiment and cut it out and placed it along the side.

Silent Night Holy Night

Linda has been posting every week a tag as a challenge for us to play along and has a lovely prize sponsored by her store The Funkie Junkie Boutique.  This weeks tag #5 has some beautiful music in the background with a resist of snowflakes.  I started from that idea and pulled out a vintage music pamphlet that describes the creation of the carol Silent Night.  I photo copied a few bits of the book to use for my tag. 
 

This was my second version of the tag. I started with the resist of stars in the background over my music and then sponged it with the plum but it got too dark.  This version didn't use the resist which allowed me to just add highlights of the soft plum to areas of the tag. 

I used this beautiful church scene from Magenta Stamps AO2185S.  I added in the clouds using a Stampscape cloud stamp.  I added color with a watercolor brush and Memento Soft Plum.  I added highlights with the white gel pen.  

At the end of the little book there was the German and English words for the Song which I used on the bottom of my tag.

I knew I wanted an angel in my sky and had nothing small enough to fit.  I pulled out my Shrinky Dinks acetate and stamped the Stampendous Angel and shrunk her to fit.  I added a little white acrylic paint behind her to make her stand out and to give her appropriate glow.  I decided to add in the moon and was going to stamp some words on it but had a few failed attempts and decided to leave it alone. :)

Impression Obsession Challenge

The Impression Obsession challenge this week is to make a card for Easter. You can find the challenge HERE.

I have a couple of fantastic Cover a Card stamps from IO and wanted to use them on this card. I don't have any Easter stamps from IO so I was a little bit more spring like in my approach.

I went on line and looked for some Easter quotes and found this lovely one from Alice Palmer. I like the idea of life, love and peace being re-born as I think of Easter and spring as being like that.

The background on the green is stamped using the new Ranger Distress Ink Crushed Olive and uses the IO stamp Tapestry 2. It is a very pretty flowery background.

The second IO stamp I used was the Greenery stamp on the background of the words. I stamped that using the Pear Tart color from Memento.

The last stamp I used from IO was the birds and they are stamped using the versafine vintage sepia and kissed onto the tapestry stamp.

The punches are all EK success.

New Memory Box stamps

I promised to share some of the new Memory Box stamps and here they are...

My idea was to create a pocket card...

Which I did but I ended up using the same image on the pocket insert as the inside so it really didn't need a pocket. :)

One of my favorite from the new stamps is the tree stamp.

The recipe is very simple. The only thing I did that required some pre-thought was to die cut the paper and lay them all together when I stamped the corners.

Love birds

Just playing around with some stamps from Memory Box.

The background is stamped in Antique Linen on Ivory cardstock to give a shadow effect. I sponged the edges with brown dye ink.

I added the little heart notes with the Just a Note sentiment using a red dye ink. The ribbon is this gorgeous ribbon I purchased at my LSS. The birds are colored using my watercolor pencils.

I have been working on lots of other projects that I can't share just yet...

Gift Card Holder

The Hero Arts Blog Challenge for this week and next is gift card holders. I decided to use up a labels 8 shape sitting on my desk to create the gift card holder and then attach it to a card.

The gift card sits in the labels 8 shape and I tied a ribbon around it to be the accent on the top and to allow them to pull it from the slot. This is what it looks like when the gift card is removed.

The background is created using two Hero Arts stamps. One is from a Christmas Borders Clear set and the other is a Poinsettia stamp. The leaves are stamped using Memento Bamboo Leaves and the flowers are stamped using Versafine Toffee.

The tag sentiment is Amuse and is inked up partially several time to make it fit my circle tag.

Cracked Glass

This was inspired by an ornament I saw online where they had the picture under a layer of glaze. These are some of the new stamps from Hero Arts. I went out yesterday and picked up some of the new sets. The rose comes with two beautiful sketched birds. The butterfly is part of a clear set called Antique Engravings and it has other butterflies, dragonfly and shells.

After I applied the yellow dye ink background, I wish I had chosen another color but once it was down I had to keep going.

The main panel was stamped in memento and the flowers were colored with my Copics. I then stamped the butterflies and dragonflies and used my watercolor pencils to color them. The background is sponged with yellow dye ink and around the edges with brown dye ink.

I than stamped the entire image with versamark watermark ink and heat embossed with clear embossing powder. I repeated that process 4 times and then cracked it. I then applied a layer of brown dye ink and wiped up the excess.

The rest is just piecing the background together.

Impression Obsession Challenge - White

The Impression Obsession Challenge this week is White. I love all-white cards. Since I don't own many IO stamps for the holidays, I decided to use a lovely house image (H1745) and stamp it in grey...

Yup! Not in grey... :) I stamped it and played with it and decided I wanted more emphasis so I pulled out my plum and this is where we ended up. There are little snowflakes entwined into the ribbon and glitter everywhere the snow should be.

Very simple and much prettier and softer in real life. (I promise)

Everything but the kitchen sink...

I decided to rename this post after I started typing up the details... This card had so many different elements to it..

This is for the HA blog challenge this week which is to use trimmings.


It all started with a package of goodies I recieved on Saturday. Anna Karin was so thoughtful and sent me an envelope full of lovely things. These were my RAK from her challenge on Two Peas for Stamptoberfest. (Thanks Anna-Karin!)

The background squares are from a masterboard I created awhile ago and made color copies of so I would have it on hand and it worked so beautifully with my main image. They were created using distress inks and resist embossing. The stamp is Hero Arts - Old French writing.

Recipe:

1. Cut card base from white cardstock 11 x 5 1/2". Score and fold in half.
2. Stamp typewriter letters using green chalk ink all over the front of the card.
3. Sponge edges of card using brown dye ink.
4. Cut 4 squares 2 1/2 x 2 1/2" from white cardstock and sponge brown dye ink around the edges.
5. Cut Frame 4 1/8" x 4 1/8" from white cardstock and die cut shape from center.
6. Cut square 4 1/4" x 4 1/4" from white cardstock and sponge edges using orange chalk ink.
7. Cut square 4 1/8" x 4 1/8" from white cardstock and stamp typewriter letters using green chalk ink.
8. Ink up flower stamp with yellow, orange, red, green chalk inks and stamp in center of typewriter background.
9. Ink up leafy branches with yellow, orange and brown chalk inks and stamp around flower.
10. Use brown colored pencil to accent leaves and flower on all stamped images.
11. Stamp butterfly on masterboard paper with versamark and heat emboss with brown embossing powder. Cut out butterfly.
12. Stamp sentiment on white cardstock using brown pigment ink.
13. Stamp typewriter letters using yellow chalk ink over sentiment.
14. Cut rectangle to mount sentiment on and sponge with orange chalk ink.
15. Assemble all layers. :)

Inspiration...

I have been struggling again with ideas and inspiration the last couple of days... So I used an idea that Cathy over at the Moxie Fab World blog initiated for Tuesday Triggers... The idea is to find something beautiful that inspires you and create a card from that inspiration. I decided to go exploring and see if something inspired me to create.

I found inspiration in a pillow from Crate and Barrel:

I was thinking an all white card with layers of embossing. Of course somehow I ended up here:

The current challenge at Hero Arts blog this week is to use glitter... So I figured why not stay with the circles and layers but add edges of glitter.

The color happened by accident. In all my playing I used a purple StazOn on my Antique Flower Background stamp. I had wiped it off several times thinking it was clean. Unfortunately after I die cut all my circles and started to stamp with my versamark I was picking up a faint purple.

I decided to go with it...

Recipe:

1. Die cut 3 size circle multiple times. (I made 8 flowers in all and used the nestabilities large circle set.) I used the smallest 3 circles from the set.
2. Stamp using versamark the antique flower background all over on all of the circles. Heat emboss using clear embossing powder.
3. Crumple up every circle multiple times to soften the edges and the circles.
4. Sponge Memento Plum around the edges of the circles.
5. I then used a Zig glue stick to add glue around the edges and dipped the edges into the glitter.
6. Pop dot the circles together. Add gem in the center.
7. The rest is putting it together. I folded some ribbon in half and tucked it in various spots to make my foliage.

Winter Birdhouse

I had visions of a row of birdhouses all looking different similar to the famous houses in San Fran. The painted ladies... Well only one made it onto my card. This card was created for the Caardvarks Circle of Friends challenge.

The background was sponged on the bottom and top. The bottom was sponged with a purple and blue dye ink. The top was just the blue.

Recipe:

1. Stamp Flourish on white cardstock with versamark and heat with clear embossing powder.
2. Sponge with blue and purple dye inks.
3. Cut out circle and rip across the edge.
4. Rip little piece for snow drift on the post.
5. Cut out other circle and sponge lightly with blue dye ink.
6. Stamp snowflakes randomly with versamark and heat emboss with clear embossing powder.
7. Sponge over snowflakes with same dye ink.
8. Punch snowflakes from purple dye ink background.
9. Cut 1 1/4" x 2" rectangle of white cardstock.
10. Stamp swirls on rectangle using plum dye ink.
11. Stamp definition stamp on white cardstock using blue dye ink. Cut 1/8 " strip.
12. Cut two 1/8" x 1 1/4" pieces for the roof. Glue the tips together and attach to top of the birdhouse. Trim corners of birdhouse off.
13. Punch border of blue stamped definition and trim to fit bottom of the bird house.
14. Use hole punch to create bird hole!

So easy and addictive. I still have 3 other fancy birdhouses that didn't make it onto the card. It is too much fun making creative birdhouses... (victorian, ranch, tudor...)

Simple Holiday Tag

Hero Arts challenge this week is simple and quick cards. I created this little tag as my simple card. Probably took me a little longer than 10 minutes. :)

I am hoping that as you look at this you see an old fashioned wooden sled. That was my intent. This was really easy to create. I basically took a rectangle and use a punched out circle to trace the top line of the sled and a punch to punch out the bottom. I then stamped, clear embossed and sponged. After that was done I cut it into thirds.

I created a few scraps to hold it togther on the back.

The wreath is a snowflake stamp stamped in green ink and cut with shaving off the ends of some of the snowflake to give it a wreath appearance.

Punched the tag, colored the bird and created a rope for my sled and done.

Stamptoberfest begins....

I am planning on lots of inky time today for Stamptoberfest... hosted by Two Peas Stamping board. My first project is this Halloween banner for Nancy's challenge. I have never created one before and found it a lot of fun! My daughter is off making her own banner. (I will add it later to this post if she finishes. :)

Nancy provided the template and the challenge was basically to create a pennant/banner for Halloween.

The only hard part was to photograph it as it didn't quite fit in my light box. I ended up outside trying to find a hook to take a picture on.

The paper is Basic Grey Eerie... The stamps are all Hero Arts. This also applies for the current HA challenge so I will share it over there as well!

Tag Tuesday - Challenge #20

Louise hosts the Tag Tuesday challenge but the next two weeks she is travelling and has a host for her challenge. Nancy is hosting for Louise and has provided the tag challenge using pink and brown. What a great color combination.

I created two tags last night with the pinks and browns.

The one on the left is a mix of Stampers Anonymous stamps and the butterfly is Hero Arts.

The one on the right is a mix of Stampers Anonymous and Flourishes Poppies stamps.

The tag on the left was created using a mask and glimmer mists for the background and then layered stamping using embossing.

The tag on the right was stamped and sponged using a memento ink pad.

I am in a hurry this morning.. Going to work at a gardens today at a volunteer event sponsored through my work. I am looking forward to spending the morning outdoors although it is going to be a little chilly.

Taffy Apple Time

This time of year there are always taffy apples available in the store and they look so delicious. This little card uses toothpicks for the handles and the Hero Arts clear stamps Designer Fruits.
I used the sentiments from the Halloween set. The sentiment is split with the front leading into the inside.

There was a lot of debate at home about if they looked like taffy apples or not. My DD's gave input which ended in me making a couple of apple toupee's and trying them out... Here is the picture with one set. I also tried vellum with a little color. Ended up not liking any of them so the apples are bald.

Tag Tuesday Challenge # 19

Tag Tuesday Challenge over at Louise's blog is Shabby Chic. I immediately went online and googled some images for inspiration. Love love love shabby chic. The thing that caught my eye right away was the roses. I have one really beautiful rose background stamp that I pulled out to use.

I tried a new technique that I was experimenting with. I hadn't seen this before but had an idea of what I was trying to achieve. Didn't happen but I was okay with the end result.

Simple instructions:

1. Stamped background stamp on white cardstock using Memento Black Ink.
2. Colored image using my Copics.
3. I wanted an overlay of something soft and wrinkled. I thought I would try tissue paper but wanted it to be transparent.
4. I crinkled the tissue paper. Flattened the tissue paper out.
5. Applied Versamark to the entire tag and the tissue paper.
6. Sprinkled clear embossing on the tag and the tissue paper. Lay the tissue paper on top of the tag and heat emboss the tissue paper onto the tag.
7. This is going to give you a very shiny coating on the tag.
8. Emboss using a CB embossing folder.
9. Sponge StaZon brown ink over the surface to add a vintage color.
10. Stamp words over the top using the StaZon.
11. Add the lace, velvet ribbon and pearls.

Piecing of Scraps

The Hero Arts Challenge this week is piecing. I created this card from a stamp given to me from Kiara! Thank you so much Kiara!

The best part of this card was using up some scraps. The stamped backgrounds were all sitting on my desk and I had already pre-cut the die-cut piece. So the colors were already selected. This reminds me of my butterfly card, I even went back to see how similar it was.

Nothing too fancy here. Just a lot of stamping multiple times and cutting out the shapes and then layering them back together.

Caardvarks Sketch Challenge - Wednesday

Wednesday's sketch for the Caardvarks Challenge:

Here is my card based on the sketch...

This is a mix of old and new stamps for me... I have had the real flowers in the background from Hero Arts for a long time and these are some of my favorites from them. There real flower series is so pretty and versatile. The background is one of there new Design Blocks called Antique Flower Background. The background is clear embossed and distress inked (Antique Linen) over the embossing. The front flowers is a Penny Black Stamp with birds stamped as accents.

The scalloped pieces were traced from journaling cards I had purchased previously. I used them as a template.

Tag Tuesday Challenge #17

This week's tag challenge is to create a tag with children. http://kardkrazy.blogspot.com/2009/09/tuesday-tag-challenge-17-children.html

Here is the tag I created for the challenge:

I actually had been coloring this image for awhile as part of my Copic practice. I would start on a section and play with the colors and then leave it aside and work on something else. I finished the boy's shirt and hair today to include it in this challenge. I love the image of the little boy and girl holding hands and walking outside. I like to think of it as a brother and sister and one of them protecting the other as they walk.

The main image is layered on a tag with a Stampers Anonymous field grass and cattails background. There are some real twigs mixed in with the twine and buttons.
