Poinsettia Tag

Time for Tim's December tag... He whipped up a pretty poinsettia using the frosted film.  I have had some frosted film for awhile and hadn't had a chance to play with it.

I used the inspiration from Tim to create my tag: 

 I started with white cardstock which I cut into a tag shape.  I then applied Ranger Distress Stain - Gold over the Tim Holtz Stencil randomly to give a textured background.  I added a few spritzes of bronze mist. I also stamped script in the background using Ranger Distress Ink - Walnut Stain.

After everything was dry I stamped the Postcard stamp using the Ranger Archival Ink -Coffee and heat embossed with brown embossing powder. I also did the same with the Penny black sentiment.

I created my leaves using Acetate and frosted film. I applied alcohol ink over the frosted surface to get the green color.  I stamped script using StazOn Ink after I applied the alcohol ink.  I heated them up to get the shape.

The Poinsettia is tissue paper misted with Dylusionals with frosted film applied to it after it was dried. I then embossed the leaves with an embossing folder.  I applied a touch of white paint and Ranger Distress Paints - Gold to the edges.  I die cut them from the Sizzix Susan Kremertz Poinsettia.

Journey

Lot's of splotchy fun is happening today on my blog. I was inspired by Tim's Tag of August.  I pulled out a set I haven't used before with all the different traveling images to create my tag.

 This tag took three tries to get it right. Those masks got some serious workout.  I started with smearing  weather wood ink and Vintage Photo ink onto the craft mat and added spritzed water.  I dragged the tag through it and heat set it and then picked up the spots by laying the tag on the ink.

I stamped my masks and cut them out. I then stamped the card with black archival ink.  I masked it and stamped the filmstrip.  I stamped all the images using black ink and highlighted them with STAEDTLER Karat Aquarell watercolor pencils.

 I wanted to play with different color combos and tried out a new yellow distress paint with orange distress paint.

 I mixed the persimmons with the seedless preservers and made a great color combo that I think I will use it for a future Halloween project.

I liked that color combo so much that I created another full piece of cardstock using the same colors.

Voyage and Dream

Time for July's tag with Tim.  Tim's Tag is a patriotic celebration which is very appropriate as we are celebrating our country tomorrow.  Unfortunately I didn't have the dies that Tim used so I created my own versions using a new die I just purchased.

I actually created my second tag first. This was my second version following Tim's techniques.  I brayered my background on this one. 

 I used the Silver Distress Paint for the left side and the Peacock Feathers Distress Stain for the right side of my tag.  I just purchased the Eiffel Tower Die about a month ago and hadn't had a chance to use it. I die cut a chipboard tower and a piece of an old book.  I then Stamped the harlequin pattern in versamark and heat embossed to form a resist. I sponged with the silver stain and then added a layer of the peacock feathers distress stain over that.  I repeated several times to get a darker shade of blue.  I stamped over the background of my tag the map to tie into my dream / voyage theme.

My second tag started with an alcohol ink background:

I used crackle paint on my stars and my bird die.  I then layered in the stamping in the background with black ink and then embossed the flowers along the side.

Be Brave

I have been happily inking away this morning.  We just arrived back from vacation and had a splendid time.  I was happy to come back and use Tim's June Tag to kick off my re-inking.  We have been visiting the National parks including Yellowstone.  The colors were phenomenal and the tag Tim created used some of the beautiful mix of colors we saw in the hydrothermal features in the park. This all blended together into my tag.

 Tim's tag used the beautiful dragonfly, I wanted to use the Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous - Traveler as I haven't had a chance to use him yet.

I thought I was using watercolor paper to stamp and color my image but as I worked with it I realized I had grabbed a scrap of regular sketch paper. It worked okay but I didn't get the blending of the watercolor markers that you get with watercolor paper.  I stamped my image onto the paper using Ranger Archival Ink. I then added color using STAEDTLER watercolor markers and waterbrushes.  I blended some of the colors on my kraft mat to get a peachy color for his skin but the rest were applied to the paper and blended with water.

I added a touch of the Eye chart in the background and distressed with Walnut Distress Ink around the edges. I painted and stained the background of my tag and added the sentiment from the Stampers Anonymous -  Wat With Words in the background and used it to add the sentiment on the front.

Voyage

Tim posted his April tag yesterday and I played around this morning using the same cool techniques he used on his tag.  Usually I try to explore and use a few different elements when I am playing along with Tim, but.  today I am a bit under the weather so I decided to stay close to his design.

 The tag this time is all about giving it a metallic patina finish. I mixed in a few different paints to try to emulate what Tim's tag looked like.
 

 My background is painted with PaperArtsy Fresco Paints.  I used a variety and many layers. I messed up halfway through and had to re-apply more layers of color.  I followed the technique Tim shared to paint the background.  I added a layer of Paper Artsy Tissue paper to stamp the letters and Voyage. I used versamark and clear embossing powder to attach the tissue paper and allow a translucency.

 Since most of the techniques on this was the same as Tim's I am going to keep my post short. Thanks for stopping by!

Steampunk Love

Tim posted his lovely Valentine inspired  February Tag yesterday.  It inspired me to create my own version of his tag:

I started with embossing Coredination's Chocolate Box Cardstock using the Sizzix Tim Holtz Valentine  embossing folder. I sanded off the edges and embossing to expose the pink color underneath.  I used this to top the bottom and top of my tag.

I then had to create a coordinating background using Tim's spritz method.  I didn't have any distress stains that matched the color of my cardstock. Instead I pulled out my re-inkers and water spritzer and used them to create a pink background.  I then spied the gold paint dabber and decided to edge everything out in gold.  That had me pulling out the Stampendous Micro-glitter Gold and ended up all glittery and gold along with the browns and pinks. :)

The main image on my card took the longest time to find. I couldn't think of what to use as I didn't have the Queen of Hearts image.  I ended up getting inspired by a beautiful set from Chocolate Baroque called Punky Romance.  It had the perfect heart image.  I stamped it with brown ink on a pink background. I edged it out with the gold paint and added the glitter again.

I wanted to add the touch of twine to my tag to add texture. I ended up taking ivory twine and painting it with the gold paint. I loved how it ended up drying with the crinkles as I scrunched it up while it was wet. It added a fun texture. 

I used the seasonal stickers from Tim for the sentiment which also received the Midas touch.  Tim did the lovely detail of the tissue tape as the ribbon and I just added a hint of the gold paint.

Another Valentine's project off my list. :)

Gears of Time

Tim's Tag of 2013 - January tag theme is all about gears of time and life.  I took that inspiration and changed it up to fit what I had on hand in celebration of the New Year.

I have a confession to make.. I really love those new Metallic Distress Inks.  I decided to use the gears embossing folder but use a scrap piece of acetate/plastic from a set of Christmas tags(sticker). I embossed the plastic using the embossing folder.  I then used the metallic distress inks to blend the Brushed Pewter and Tarnished Brass over the acetate.  I edged with a Gold Leafing Krylon Pen.  I used the same three components on my brass clocks, gears, brads and clock hands.  The tag was stamped using Versamark and heat embossed with Stampendous Gold Embossing Powder. (Champagne)  I edged the sides with the Krylon but the top and bottom of the mini tag were embossed with the same embossing powder.  I backed my acetate tag with a white cardstock tag to give it support and show off the metallic colors.

I stamped the baby new year using brown archival ink and colored with a touch of watercolor pencils. I stained the seam binding using the metallic stains and stamped with the brown archival ink.  The stamps are all from Artistic Outpost - Auld Lang Syne.
