Travel Time

Hi!  Today I am sharing my travel inspired project for the Frilly and Funkie Challenge "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" hosted by the fabulous Kathy Clement.  Here is how she describes the challenge:

"Summer is a great time to travel. For this challenge, create a vintage or shabby chic travel themed project. Think folded maps, cruise ships, road signs, compasses, passports, trains, planes or automobiles. As long as your project features a travel theme, you're headed in the right direction."

I decided to create a travel pouch that could hold travel documentation.  I measured it out to make it large enough to hold folded up 81/2 x 11" papers and even created a mini pouch to put inside.
I had fun creating the texture and designs on the sections of the journal.  I used a mix of inks and embossing paste on the front.
I created a pleat for the sides to allow additional space to store papers, tickets, stubs, mementos and anything needed to carry along on the trip.

The inside was a mix of stamping and taped interior. I cut out a opening in the section to grab easily anything in the pocket.
There is a  mini pouch that slips inside that is the same style of the larger pouch.  The mini pouch has pleated sides and is a 1/2 inch small in width to fit nicely inside of the larger portfolio.

I hope you are inspired to come and play along with the Design team!

The winner will earn the chance of a Guest Designer spot here at Frilly and Funkie, and everyone who enters and follows the rules will go into the draw for the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. In addition, the Design Team will select three further outstanding entries and those creators will receive a Top Pick badge to display on their blogs!
Thanks for dropping by!

B Happy

B Happy!  The new challenge at Frilly and Funkie is "B Happy"  hosted by the talented Cec.

She describes the challenge:

"Create a shabby chic or vintage project that makes you happy and features birds, bees and/or butterflies. You must use at least one of these things with wings and it must have a place of prominence on your creation but if you wish to use two or more, please feel free to do that."

Butterflies? Bees? Birds?  What a wonderful set of choices to be inspired by!

I didn't have to go far to start this project. I decided to take the sizzix layered butterfly and folded over white cardstock to create a card base.  I laid the folded edge just short of the top of the wings and run the card through the die cutting machine.

This gave me a card in the shape of a butterfly. I repeated this about 10 times and cut some extra butterflies for extra fun.

Then I just had fun layering different stamps, embellishments and inks onto the cards.

I stamped on some and stenciled on others.  I also cut out a paper doll to fit on the front of the butterfly card front.

I pulled out some of my older retired stamps that I love and used them to ink up and decorate my butterflies.

Some like this one was stenciled and set aside to dry.  After it dried it came back to be stamped and inked up.

I tried for a masculine butterfly by using the lines and numbers in a nice cobalt blue ink.

This one used a mix of gold embossing paste and a gold crackle finish. I added a layer of the opal magic which is such a pretty shimmery color.

Jenny has been using the wallpaper on her cards and had me thinking about using it on my butterflies so two more butterflies were created using the wallpaper with a nice whitewash.

Finally what fun it would be to have a card with a multi wing butterfly. So this butterfly was stamped twice and attached together.

I added a touch of mica flakes and baubles that were sponged with a touch of alcohol ink.
