On The Farm

Happy Wednesday!  Time for another great challenge from Frilly and Funkie!  The Funkie side of the team is sharing their art for the All Creatures Great and Small challenge hosted by our new DT member Maggi!  Welcome Maggi!

Maggi describes the challenge as:

"I've chosen one of my favorite subjects as the focus of this challenge, animals. They delight us in so many ways; perhaps a trip to the zoo with the kids has made you smile. Maybe you have fur-babies that are a big part of your life. My fur-babies are my children and hold the top spot in the hierarchy of my home!
For this challenge, create a vintage or shabby chic project that is centered around animals. It could be your pets or a vintage photo. Could be an animal you fear, spiders anyone??? Eeeek!!!! No humans please, just animals on your project, otherwise anything goes."

This had me thinking about all kinds of different animals and the Frilly Design Team's projects gave me even more inspiration to think about.  I meandered around in my ideas until I decided to pull out the On The Farm stamps to kick off my project.

I love the animal silhouettes on these stamps and used them to inspire both of my cards.  I stamped out the image of the cow and then cut them out to  use as a base image for the cards.

I ended up covering one cow in design tape and sponging the other cow with a nice rich brown dye ink.

I stamped, I inked, I taped and then layered.  I started one card and then which switch over to the next card and back and forth until I ended up with two divine bovine cards!

The backgrounds were inked up with a mix of ground espresso dye ink and worn lipstick paint. I watered both down and dabbed the background to pick up a hint of pink.

I stamped over the layers with ledgers, words, and text using the brown archival ink.  I added remnant rub-ons positioned after I had determined where my main items were going to be placed.

I used some ephemera to give my cows a little fancy wreath to wear.  I mixed up some stamping on the background from the same stamp set as well as a few other stampers anonymous sets.

You need to check out the Design Team's projects as they are all fabulous!  Don't forget to play along as the winner will earn the chance of a Guest Designer spot  at Frilly and Funkie, and everyone who enters and follows the rules will go into the draw for the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. In addition, the Design Team will select three further outstanding entries and those creators will receive a Top Pick badge to display on their blogs!

Haberdashery

Happy Wednesday!  Today I am sharing a creation for the latest Frilly and Funkie challenge hosted by the creative and inspiring Zoe called "Haberdashery".

She describes the challenge as:

"A haberdasher is a person who sells small articles for sewing, such as buttons, ribbons and zippers. For this challenge create a vintage or shabby chic project including items found at a Haberdashery."

I was inspired the thought of buttons and threads.  I was thinking about Halloween and the finery a witch would be wearing for the holiday.

I started with cutting out a few ice skates from the Tim Holtz Ice Skates.  I had a vision that if I removed the skate blades they would make some cool boots!

All it took was a little snip snip and I had some wonderful witch boots.  I stamped over them with a text stamp and then sponged them with a nice coat of black soot distress oxide.  I laced them up with some string (died to coordinate) and tied them off with some fun buttons.  I then decided they needed a shiny coat on the tips and the heels.  I masked them off and sponged versamark.  (I did this after the dye ink had set for awhile.  If you can't wait you have to heat set the dye ink before doing this or your black embossing powder can stick elsewhere. :)

The hat was something I drew up after looking online for some inspiration.  I wanted it to look a little bit like the sorting hat in Harry Potter.

I stamped the background with a different stamp from the Etcetera stamps.  The backrgound is a mix of orange and black inked Halloween stamp.

You have another week to join us in the fun!  The winner will earn the chance of a Guest Designer spot at Frilly and Funkie, and everyone who enters and follows the rules will go into the draw for the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. And there are Top 3 Badges for three further outstanding entries, chosen by the Design Team, because choosing just one winner is so hard!
