Celebrate

 Hi!  Time for a new challenge!  Cec is hosting this time and she has challenged us to Celebrate!  Here is how she described the challenge: 

"Your challenge is to create a shabby chic or vintage project to celebrate someone or something special. Since celebrations are happy occasions, your project should be made with lots of happy, bright colours. Keep your dull or neutral colours to a minimum please because as winter approaches we will have lots of that naturally so your bright colours must be predominant."

 

I have to admit I struggled a bit with the bright colors.  I finally decided to create a masterboard background with a mix of colors. 

Here is a bit of the background cut to a tag.  I started by applying the embossing paste through the Ironwork stencil.  I then spritzed and sprayed a mix of reds, purple, pink, orange and yellow all together.  I added some shimmery sprays and then finished it with a salt layer to pool the inks. 

After it dried I die cut a large amount of tissue paper tattered florals and gave them the same treatment.  Inky sprays, salt and shimmery spray all over the flowers and then let them dry.  I then took the flowers and double layered them with a glue dot in the center to make them scrunch up like flowers. 

I traced a heart and used it as my guidance to create my floral heart.

Plaid and Poinsettia

Hi!  Happy Friday!  I have been making poinsettias because of Linda's (The Funkie Junkie) latest 12 tags of Christmas.  This week she has a lovely plaid tag with a pretty poinsettia as a focal point. 

 I don't make flowers often as they are hard for me to put together.  I looked at the video on how to create the poinsettia's as a reminder before I started.  I loved that I was able to use up some really old pattern paper and loved how my poinsettia's turned out. 

I actually created two plaid backgrounds and saved one for a future tag. The first one was in a more orange red and lime green.  I was going to use that as my background but ended up cutting my flowers from more traditional colors.  Only after I finished this plaid it was too close in colors to my other poinsettia and it didn't pop.  So I created my ivory colored poinsettia to really pop on the plaid.

I then added Stampendous Encrusted Embossing mixture which is so pretty as it is a combination of embossing powder, glitter and mica flakes.  It really doesn't show up on the picture but it adds a lovely shimmer and snowy effect.

I then just added a simple twine bow and stamped the word Joy on coordinating paper.

Silver and Teal

Hi!  I am playing along with Linda's (The Funkie Junkie) Twelve Tags of Christmas - Week #3.  The challenge she hosts is sponsored by her boutique (The Funkie Junkie Boutique).  Her tag this week uses the cool knit sweater inspired dies from Sizzix.

I didn't have the die that Linda used.  Instead I thought about how I could replicate the look and feel of Linda's tag.  I went through all my stencils looking for ones that would work to emulate Christmas inspired patterns.

I wanted to have my background shimmer similar to Linda's so I pulled out a few Color Shines (Silver and Gold) and on my way to those I spied the pretty teal color.  I was looking at red sprays but none of mine give me the red I wanted so I decided to go the teal and silver route.

I masked off the tag with painters tape so it would lift off after I finished stenciling my stripes of different patterns. I then used scrap cardstock to mask off the other areas and I stenciled with white embossing paste my various patterns.  I did have to have drying time in between depending on the size of the stencil.  After I finished I sprayed the entire surface with the silver shine.

I came back and added in the teal spray in the areas that were stenciled.  This required masking again to keep the blue in the stenciled areas.

I then die cut a deer from a metallic paper and embossed a stamped music image onto the surface.  I finished him off with some antlers from Christmas sprigs purchased last year.

Adventure is a State of Mind

Yeah it is Wednesday!  Half way through the week!  I created a journal page for the Mixed Media Place Creative Exercise #11 the challenge is to use one of the Art Recipes from Finnabair's blog.  I followed the Under Pressure Art Recipe.   I cased the design from Finnabair.

 The challenge was to keep it simple use things on hand and keep the design cleaner.

 

I started with a touch of the color bursts/brusho in the background with a few strips of tissue tape.  I added some black embossing paste stenciled over the background.  I added a touch of the new ground espresso distress stain spray. 

I layered a tag, burlap, wood veneer and the photobooth image.  I added a few remnant rub-ons onto the layers.

Food Colors Part II

Back to the rest of the food colors... Again I was pulling out some of my favorite stamps of all time that I haven't used in years. :O

My first food color combination is Eggplant and Ginger.  While watching the cooking shows I was surprised to see that the ginger was a pretty pink color.

 I sponged on the top half a mix of Memento Soft Plum and Lilac.  On the bottom I started with Angel Pink but added Rose Bud into the mix.  I tamped the pussy willows and added highlights with the white gel pen. I also splattered watered down acrylic paint over the surface. I added a layer of splattered goosebumps to add darker water splotches which have a nice sheen to it in the light.  

The next colors were Lemon and Carrot:

I used the layering stencil and sprayed the yellow mist first and then did the orange at an angle to only mist it to the inside of the stencil.  I used Heidi Swapp Color Shine.  I then used the Idea-Ology Rub-Ons Botanical to add the touch of music and words.  I stamped the Stampers Anonymous Cupid over the top and added a touch of pink watercolor pencil shading to his body.  I then punched a bunch of hearts to add the hearts to the background.

Next up is Grapefruit and Cherry

I stamped one of my all time favorite Stampendous stamps the Ranunculus.  The inks were a splattering of white acrylic watered down paint over the background. Then Heidi Swapp Color Shine (soft pink) and then the Dylusions Cherry spray splattered over the top.

The  finish with Blueberry and Plum colors: 

 The inks were the Ranger Distress Stains (Lavender and Broken China).  The image is Stampers Anonymous and the letters on either side are Memory Box.

There is one more food collection of salt and pepper which I have all kinds of ideas for so we will see what I end up with.

To the Moon

Happy Tuesday!  I have my take on Tim's May Tag. His tags always inspire me and a great way to kick off the month.

I dug into my ephemera drawer and found a series of ephemera from an October Afternoon set related to the moon and rockets.  I decided to use that as the base for my theme. 

I pulled out my photobooth images from DarkRoom Door.  The background is made up of a piece of burlap attached to the tag.  Layered in the ephemera and then stenciled on a patch of stars.

I finished off with a smattering of rub-ons and the stamped sentiment cut up and arranged along the side.

Golden Girl

Due Dates is the challenge this week at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge.  You couldn't pick anything closer to my heart.  I loved checking books out at the library and of course that is what I thought of when I heard the words due date. That idea had me pulling out a pre-printed tag with a date column.  I created my layout inspired by the tag.

Once I decided on the tag the rest of the layout became a lovely set of neutrals including printing a sepia colored photo of my daughter.

I started this layout and worked on it over a period of 3 weeks.  In the meantime new stamps, stencils and sprays kept showing up and I kept adding them into my layout.

I love this stamp from Impression Obsession and it worked beautifully with the Sizzix Butterfly and my canvas tags.

I started with a sheet of white cardstock.  I stenciled the flourishes over the background using Wendy's White embossing paste.  I let it dry and sprayed a mix of Vintage Photo and Antique Linen Ranger Distress Stain Sprays over the background.

 I die cut flourishes and butterfly.  The butterfly got embossed with the typewriter letters and sponged with a touch of vintage photo. I stamped some sentiments form the new Prima Finnabair sets and used them to accent the layout.

Dragonfly Love

 Happy middle of the week!  I was cleaning up my desk and found this slip of paper which was a inventory tag.  I just grabbed the dragonfly and stamped him over the inventory slip.

 I love the blue and greens found on the dragonfly and decided to color him using the STAEDTLER Karat Aquarell Watercolor Pencils.

 I then layered it onto a card and added stenciled white embossing paste using the Tim Holtz Layering Stencil and sprinkled it with Stampendous Ultra Fine Glitter. I let it dry and added a few pops of pink sequins and the sentiment.

Wish Big

I have really been enjoying the Creative Gym at the Mixed Media Challenge!  Exercise #5 plays with a black background and adding color to the palette.  I used this as time to play and create a card for someone special.

I painted the background with black gesso and then stenciled with black embossing paste the numbers. I let that dry and added splashes of bright green and light blue paint across the surface.  I used the stencil to dab the green paint over the letters.  I stamped the sentiment in the green paint.  I then mounted it on a black card.
