Aprils Showers Bring May Flowers

Hi!  Today I am sharing my project for the next Funkie Junkie Boutique Challenge called "Aprils Showers Bring May Fowers".

The challenge is hosted by Maggi and here is how she describes the challenge:

"Design a vintage or shabby chic project that incorporates a wet "something" with flowers. Examples: Stenciled or doodled raindrops, water distressed or crumpled paper,  Tim Holtz's Umbrella Man, you get the idea, just have something that represents wet. Then, add some flowers to your project."

I went searching for inspiration on Pinterest.  I saw some beautiful mixed media flowers on a painted canvas.  I decided to try to interpret that into a card that could be sent to someone.

I started with making a background of sponged distress inks.  I wanted to be able to flick water over the surface and give water spots.

I then stamped a little of the ground using a stamp from the new Flower Garden.  I found a bit of textured ribbon that I cut into strips for my stems.  I added a hint of shadowing with some watercolor pencils.

I then took and cut and tore shapes from a stamped inky background and the Stamperia House of roses scraps.  I distressed all edges and sponged with brown dye ink.

I waited a day and decided to add a little bit more to my mixed media pieces:

I was quite pleased with my little flower garden and maybe I will attempt a canvas with large flowers next!

Please use this time to craft and if you are inspired come play along in the challenge with us.   The winner will earn a chance to be a Guest Designer at a future date  at The Funkie Junkie Boutique blog, and everyone who enters and follows the rules will go into the draw for the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. There are also Top 3 Badges for three additional outstanding entries, chosen by the Design Team.

Thanks for stopping by, and I send my thoughts and prayers that everyone is keeping safe and healthy!

  1. Suzz, your artwork always delights me, and this is no exception! I love your inky rain-dropped, yet sunny background, (we all need a little bit more sunshine!) and the torn paper flowers with their ribbon stems are so creative! How fun we both chose the same quote! Take care of YOU and your precious family! Hugs!

  3. Oh, fabulous! I love your scrap-petal flowers - the colours and patterning are so good against the sunshine background. The addition of the textural blue "earth" around the stems is perfect. Love this.
