Play Date Cafe #52 - Let's Celebrate

This week is a special week for the PDCC.  We are celebrating our one  year anniversary! We have fun prizes, special designers and fun posts all week at the Play Date Cafe Challenge!

Our challenge this week involved selecting colors from the inspiration photo and using a Itty Bitty stamp set provided by Unity!   My stamp set from Unity was Rain or Shine.

Julie selected the lovely soft and pretty colors this week:

 I was inspired by the different pinks, yellows and peaches and decided to make it rain umbrellas.

Very simple little card with some sponging, piecing and stamping.  I love the idea of the wind pulling up all the pretty umbrellas and sending them flying across the sky.  As long is it isn't me in the downpour without  my umbrella. :)

Now onto fun stuff like prizes, sponsors, and guest designers!

This week we are lucky to have Unity and Cosmo Cricket sponsoring the PDCC with wonderful prizes!

We also have special guests designing this week as part of the celebration.  The alumni designers  from the PDCC will be playing along.

Hero Arts Food Challenge

This month's challenge at Hero Arts is Food, Travel and Book Making. I decided to combine the book making and Food challenge into making a tag book for recipes.  I have to admit I was very inspired to create a tag book after seeing some beautiful inspiration here and here.  Although their books were assembled much differently it gave me the thought of taking the tags into a book format.

Here is a picture of my recipe book assembled.

I put the tags back to back so I have 3 pages but 5 pages with pockets for recipe cards.

This is a good reminder of why I don't scrap layouts... Lots of time spent trying to coordinate papers, images and colors. :) Lot of work for 3 pages. And they aren't even 12 x 12's and don't have the usual detail I like to add.


The images are all stamped using Memento Tuxedo Black or Rich Cocoa to allow me to use my Copics. :)
I used a variety of papers from October Afternoon (Fly a Kite, Farm Fresh) and Cosmo Cricket (Garden Variety).

The stamps are all from Hero Arts (CL440 - Kiss the Cook, Cl320 Sparkle Clear - Designer Fruit, CL345 - What's the Scoop).

Love the papers they remind me of my Grandma's kitchens, aprons etc.

Green Veggies

I know a few people who when they were little wouldn't eat their green vegetables. :) (My DH included)

I created this card for a family friend who needs a little encouragement right now. Every time I see him we talk about his garden.  He is a fantastic gardener and that inspired me to pull out some of my papers for the garden.

I decided to create a card that meets the City Crafter Challenge and the Hero Arts food challenge and is (I hope) a perfect card for our friend.

The papers are from the Cosmo Cricket Garden Variety 6 x 6 paper.  The background to the veggies is from October Afternoon Farm Fresh.  The images are from a cute set from Hero Arts called Kiss the Cook.

I am working on a few projects for Monday. I will be sharing on my blog some projects using the new Memory Box stamps from the What's in the Box Release. I will be sharing the same projects on Monday on the Outside the Box blog.  All week long the Outside the Box blog is having a blitz of projects from the design team with opportunities to win the stamps being featured.

There is still time to play along with us at the PDCC! The colors are pink, white and red!

Material Girl

I don't know about you but when I see those words I think of a song by Madonna... Now maybe that ages me. :)


I have this lovely mini deck of papers from Cosmo Cricket called Material Girl and haven't really used them. So I decided today to pull them out and make a patchwork bacgkround. (No sewing for me although I think it would add a beautiful touch)

Love the pretty golds, yellows and reds mixed in the various papers. I tried to emulate that with the stamped image. The Northwoods stamp was inked up with Toffee and Crimson Red from Versafine. The Sentiment is Hero Arts and stamped using the Crimson Red and Vintage Sepia from Versafine.

Sending some Sunshine your Way

This is another card for the Cards for Kids Drive that Jennifer McGuire is hosting.


I have three adorable punches from EK Success (frog, crab, and starfish). They were the inspiration to start a little beach party.

The crabs are created using red pattern paper that I received from Sanne (thanks Sanne).


I also used this fantastic Cosmo Cricket paper that I think looks like waves for my ocean. After I had my ocean and my fun crabs I knew they needed to have a beach party, so I made them a beach ball to play with and a little sunshine.

After I had done all that I realized there was no stamping and I couldn't let that happen so I created the sky using the friends definition stamp.


The inside of the card has the sentiment "Sending you Sunshine and Laughter".

Cards for Kids Drive

Jennifer McGuire is hosting an on-going card drive for kids who are ill and for their families too. I usually dont' have too many kids cards on hand, so I decided to create a few to send off to the card drive.

I told my daughter I wanted to do a knock knock card with a frog and she came up with the knock knock joke and wrote it down for me.

The papers are Cosmo Cricket and all the stamps are Hero Arts.

I had to switch to orange frogs as I ran out of the green pp. :)

Snowy Christmas

Look at this gorgeous paper... It looks like snow falling and I couldn't resist creating a little scene using it as my sky with snow. I have had this verse for awhile and haven't had the chance to use it on a card. Now doesn't that just fit this quiet scene?

The paper is Cosmo Cricket Jolly by Golly. The Hero Arts Challenge this week is tearing paper. I tore the snowy ground and stamped on the Hero Arts tree. You don't get the full effect of the tree as I used the puffy Ranger Embossing powder to give it texture. The birds are B Line design. The verse is from Northwoods.
