Texting Birthday Messages

Our oldest (GULP) child is turning 16 in a month.  I have been trying to come up with a clever card that is appropriate for a 16 year old boy.  

Cath has a fun challenge over at the Moxie Fab World Get Daring with Decorative Tape.  The challenge was the inspiration for my son's birthday card.

 

The tape is from 7 Gypsies and it reminded me of a tape measure. I decided to cut a strip that showcased the number 16.  I started with a circle of gems around the number 16 and it was too blingy. So I searched in my odds and ends bins and found the tag rim instead. The background is stamped with Hero Arts designblock Special Day Words.  The phones and messages are from Stampendous. I purchased the set a long time ago and this is the first time I used it. Although now my tween daughter has seen this she is already requesting more cards with the phones and text messages. :) 

A big thank you to Cath for the letters (Thickers) I won from the Moxie Fab World blog the American Crafts collection awhile ago and you would not believe the amount of fabulous papers and Thickers that showed up in my mail. 

The Arrow came off a set of stickers that were a RAK from Louise. (Thank you Louise!)

Alcohol Inks Class

This is a card from my Alcohol Inks class. The colors are from the new alcohol inks from Ranger. I love the new colors, this card used juniper, willow, and stonewashed inks.

Background Stamps

I drew up this sketch and then tried to execute it... I am not very good at translating sketches to cards. I wanted to use three bows across a circle. Unfortunately... I didn't have enough ribbon in the color and size I wanted to get bows. So I ended up with knots...


and the card was modified from the sketch because the visual effect was not as pretty as the sketch. :)

I have been so busy lately that my cardmaking has reflected it. My son has just graduated from 8th grade. My mom is sick and we have been working on getting her medication correct. We have a new puppy and then there is always work. So this has been a little bit why you have seen so little of my cards lately.

Inspiration III

This card was inspired by Kiara http://stampingcafe.blogspot.com/ as well. The card itself actually happened because everytime I make a card (See earlier this week) I end up with something I reject. Usually those scraps go into the scrap pile until I can use them in a card but this was already a half finished card.

Flowers and Wood Grain

This week challenge on Hero Arts is to use your favorite stamps from Hero Arts. I actually have a few I like to use repeatedly. This card pulls a couple of them into one card.

I love their wildflowers and wood grain stamp and used both in this card. Sorry about the picture we are in a dense fog advisory this morning and I had to take my picture indoors. On my to do list is to set up a space to take better pictures. :)

Speaking of spaces my youngest took a snapshot of my craft space. I decided to share it with you. (Very cluttered) My craft space has moved multiple times and is transitional so my storage is all about plastic drawers.

The desk is a desk my husband made in high school wood working class. This tells you how talented he is in woodworking. He made me my ink pad storage which is in the picture to the left and it works wonderfully. Although this looks very messy I know where everything is and can pull it out very quickly as I need it.

Still taking down Christmas ornaments...

Okay I slacked a little yesterday and all the Christmas decorations did not make it down. I was making envelopes and a tag to go with some cards I made a long time ago. I spent some time yesterday designing the matching piece. Usually I don't do anything like this and it was kind of fun. (Can't share them unfortunately as they are being shipped off to hopefully be published).

I am posting a card I made a few days ago that I thought was fun.
