My Favorite Technique

The Simon Says Stamp and Show Challenge this week  is to use your favorite technique. I had to think about it for awhile as I love trying new techniques.  Usually my favorite technique is the latest one I have been playing with.  After I stopped to think about it,  I realized that I pull out my mists almost everyday and use them in a variety of ways.  This prompted me to do a project using one of my favorite techniques of spraying glimmer mist on tissue paper. 

My family lives near Lake Michigan which made an easy decision of where to take Prom pictures this year. My son and his girlfriend look wonderful and the sky was overcast which provided the perfect lighting in addition to the gorgeous beach.  I knew the Patina Glimmer Mist - Tattered Angels was the perfect shade to partner with her beautiful dress.   I spritzed multiple layers of tissue paper to create a soft background.

 

The cardstock and tissue paper are sprayed with glimmer mist.  After the they dried I attached the layers of tissue paper onto the cardstock using tape.  I then brushed white acrylic paint over the edges and across the surface.  

 

I added a twist of twine around the edges and added touches of flowers, leaves and seashells to provide a layer of texture and softness.

To finish off the layout I added a little lock and key with a heart shape in the corner.  I left room for my journal / notes in the center.

I also owe my older sis her birthday card which she told me she liked green and owls! So it all works together. The main HA web-site has brown, green and touches of orange and they have the cute little owl.

Cornish Heritage Farms & Thinking Inking Challenges

This week at two peas in a bucket Jennifer McGuire's class is on alcohol inks http://www.twopeasinabucket.com/cg_display.asp?cmd=display&seed_id=30045. I love alcohol inks and I also am playing in the Cornish Heritage Farms Summer Design Challenge http://forums.cornishheritagefarms.com/viewtopic.php?t=2740&sid=4bc95e215c931fd1489727d74ff52d0a and this weeks challenge is resist. I combined the two to come up with this:

Recipe:

1. Stamp images on glossy cardstock using versamark watermark ink.
2. Emboss images with clear embossing powder.
3. Apply layer of orange alcohol ink across bottom 1/3 or cardstock by dripping 3 drips of orange alcohol ink on felt on applicator and addint 3 drops of blending solution. Smear on cardstock using a stroke along the bottom.
4. Replace felt and repeat for light green in the middle and pink on top. Careful not to blend the colors too much.
5. Use clean felt with blending solution to remove excess color on embossed areas. This will mute the tones of the alcohol inks to the soft pastel shades.
6. Versamark entire surface and heat emboss with clear embossing powder.
7. Attach flowers, gems, twine.
8. Punch dragonflies with vellum and orange cardstock.

Background Stamps

I drew up this sketch and then tried to execute it... I am not very good at translating sketches to cards. I wanted to use three bows across a circle. Unfortunately... I didn't have enough ribbon in the color and size I wanted to get bows. So I ended up with knots...


and the card was modified from the sketch because the visual effect was not as pretty as the sketch. :)

Go Green Challenge

I do have my second circle card to share tomorrow and I have to admit it is one I really enjoyed making. I bumped my circle card because I have one last card I made for the HA go green challenge which ends today.

The white background is from a Making Memories set and I used it to stamp the leaves pattern. The only issue is there is a finish on the paper which made it interesting to stamp on and emboss. I stamped using a pigment ink and clear embossed but I think the heat gun actually melted the finish and left the orange a little muted.

Circle Cards...

I finally got inspired last night and created 3 different cards. But two of them were inspired by one sketch I drew a few nights ago. So you are going to see 2 circle cards one today and one tomorrow. Unless I cook up something different today.

In real life this doesn't look that pink. Must have been the sunlight pulling out the glimmer mist! It started as a graduation card for my nephew but now it is going to be for my niece. :)

This was created for the HA blog go green challenge. I re-cycled a borders gift card envelope (the half circle behind Ms. Owl) and the newspaper around the edges.

The recipe for the background and the flowers were to spray daffodil, Tuscany Sun, and Red Velvet on white cardstock(Circle) and newspaper(flowers). Use a paper towel to remove any excess ink or another piece of cardstock to save for future use.

Friendship

Here is my second entry for the Hero Arts Blog Challenge this week for friendship. I found this scrap I had stamped. (The background in light green) which was stamped with the same stamp in light green and dark green on both sides. (Ha!) Which didn't make it onto another card. I love this Designblock from Hero Arts it is spread out enough that it makes a beautiful lacy background.

I have been very bad and went shopping today... See the fringe on the bottom and the fancy lavendar doily circle? New Fiskars corner punch. :(

It is very pretty and I bought it at 40% off (Jo Ann's).

The recipe is very simple so I will just share the products with you.

Just for fun....

I shared a few of my cards with a good friend to use as samples in classes she teaches. Unfortunately she asked me how did you do create one of the cards I shared with her... So of course I had to try the technique again because I couldn't remember. Here is my new card...

Recipe: (This way I will have it documented for future reference.)

1. Cuttlebug emboss white cardstock.
2. Sponge embossing using olive green dye ink. Sponge over the entire card lightly with brown dye ink. Spritz with water. Dab up excess. (Lay something on top while drying to prevent curling of the paper.
3. Punch circle (3") from white cardstock. Ink stamp with green and brown ink. Stamp tree on circle.
4. Sponge top half of the circle with blue dye ink. Sponge bottom half of circle with olive green ink lightly. Lightly sponge brown dye ink all around the edges of the circle.
5. Shade in outline flowers with orange color pencil. Add light green gems on flowers randomly.
6. Attach orange prima flowers randomly on Cuttlebug Embossed image. Add light green gems to center of flowers.
7. Mount and layer all pieces. Attach leafy vine before layering all pieces. (I decided to add mine at the end.)
