All about Favorites - Artistic Outpost Blog Hop

This month the Artistic Outpost Hop is to share your favorite set.  My project started from Artistic Outpost sets that represent books. I spent so many hours as a child reading and re-reading books from the library. I could always be found with a book in hand.  This project reflects my love of books and I was thrilled to find so many of the images from the Artistic Outpost sets from children's books.

I made a reading log binder:

I took two chipboard covers and painted them white.  I then used the  alphabet stamp and stamped it over the surface using Juniper Adirondack ink. Distress the edges using the brown dye ink.

Punch various size circles from  scrap cardstock. Use the circles to sponge blue circles using acrylic paint over the surface. Add a touch of white acrylic paint to the circles before they are dry to merge the color into the circle.

I stamped the various images on white cardstock and colored them and cut them out with detail scissors.

Here is a list of all the stamps used: Neverland, Oz Collage, Huck Finn, Secretary Pool, Wonderland, Favorite Book.

The rest of the Design Team are sharing their favorite sets. Hop along and see what they picked:

Map Cigar Box

Simon Says Stamp and Show anything but a Card inspired me to pull out an old cigar box and crate a keepsake box.

I covered the entire box inside and out with piece of map from an old Atlas I purchased at a garage sale. I distressed it with white acrylic paint and brown dye ink.
I stamped a variety of the Artistic Outpost Route 66 and the Home stamps using brown ink.  I colored them using watercolor pencils and waterbrush. I added sentiments from Artistic Outpost Huck Finn plate and the Route 66 plate.

I finished it with some strips of leather to make a frame on the cover.  I think this one will be going to my son to hold mementos from his various vacations.

Have a wonderful day!

Manly Card

The Simon Says Stamp and Show challenge this week is to show men.  The layout of my card is from the sketch at Mojo Monday #208.

I decided to use the sketch like a grid card and try to put together 4 panels of manliness using Artistic Outpost stamps and 7 Gypsies paper.

The sets used include: Artistic Outpost - Steampunk, Huck Finn, Paris Exposition, and Loverly London
Lots of distressing with the sponge and Vintage Photo. Touches of watercolor pencils and stamped using Ranger Archival Black Ink. Finished off with a touch of white gel pen highlights.

It's Raining... It's Pouring..... More rain in the forecast for us today and tomorrow.

Hope your day is seeing a little sunshine!

Artistic Outpost Release - March 2011

There are four beautiful plates being released today at Artistic Outpost!

The wonderful sets include:
  • Gatsby  features the main characters of the novel in photograph style with deco backgrounds.
  • Flapper Fashions is a wonderful collection of "flappers" wearing their fabulous stylish outfits!
  • Huck Finn is a collection of collage and illustration images featuring Huck, paddle boats, and that friend of his Tom Sawyer.
Windows and Doors features some beautiful background and focal images along with lovely sentiments.
All of the new stamp sets are available both as unmounted red rubber sheets for $14.00 or pre-cut and mounted on EZMount cling foam for $22.99.

Here are some fun projects using the new sets:

The first card is from the wonderful Flappers Fashions. I selected one of the beautiful flapper images and framed her with some beautiful Webster's Pages papers and the sentiment and images from the Paris Exposition plate.

My second card uses the striking image from the Gatsby plate. He was so handsome and elegant I immediately thought of a wedding card.  I created a card that could be used as a thank you card for a groomsman in a wedding or even a card for a groom. The sentiment is from the Song Birds plate and the flourish in the background is from the Flappers Fashions plate.

The boys from the Huck Finn plate are so fun and inspired a card exploring and I could just see them gazing out across the water at the steamboats.

My final card is a triptych using the wonderful Windows and Doors Plate.

I stamped the image on acetate and embossed using gold embossing powder. Hand cut out the outside and the windows. I then stamped the sentiment on white cardstock. The frames were linked using jump rings. The birds are from the Song Birds plate.

The design team has created some really fantastic projects and cards which you can go see in the Artistic Outpost Gallery. The design team is also sharing wonderful projects on their blogs:
