Starfish, Pink Coral and Cherry Red

Edited to add: I had my post ready to go and saw the sad news about Brussels.  My thoughts and prayers go out to the families impacted by today's tragedy.

I am always intrigued with color palettes and the Words and Paintery March Challenge has a beautiful monochromatic color scheme in lovely shades of corals and reds.  The quote from Marilyn Monroe is quite inspirational as well. (I just realized I have a Marilyn Monroe stamp that I have been wanting to use and didn't even think of it when I was creating these!)  I took the pretty colors mixed with the "Vintage" challenge a the Mixed Media World Challenge #12 and created a series of ATC's.

I started with a lovely background created with my Tattered Angels Glimmer mist (The aforementioned Starfish, Pink Coral and Cherry Red).  I spent some time dripping, smearing and playing with them on a sheet of mixed media paper.   After that dried I cut it up into the atc's and started stamping and stenciling and playing with texture on the backgrounds of the ATCs.
Darkroom Door has some beautiful photos and I dug through them looking for images to use from them.  My first ATC started with a layer of tissue paper misted and stamped behind the fun image. I then brought in the twine and starts and added the stamped word over the background.  I finished with a splattering of paint and the sentiment.
My next one started from bits and pieces I pulled out to use on the ATC's and I like how she came together.  I stamped the polka dots in the background using the Darkroom Door Eclectic polka dots stamp and white paint.  The butterfly is from a DRD collage stamp and is stamped on the misted tissue paper.  The sentiment is from the Idea-ology stickers.

My next one is difficult to see because it is layered with vellum and misted tissue paper flowers.  It is very pretty in real life but doesn't photograph well. :)
Last but not least is one of my all time favorite stamps from AO.   I went looking for an image to go on this and pulled her out to put in the center of my hand drawn heart.

Beauty of the Season

Happy Friday!  It took me all week to create two tags. Slow creative process. :)  I am playing along with Linda's Funkie Junkie Tags sponsored by her Funkie Junkie Boutique.  I also mixed in the colors from the Mixed Media Color Challenge #10 into one of my tags.  I am going to share that tag today and share my other tag later this week.

I didn't have some of the elements found in Linda's  tag, so I decided to focus on the layout and the design.    The background was created using a gelli plate, sequin waste and pearlized paint.  After it had dried I smeared a dye ink over the surface to capture the pattern and the coral color found in the challenge. I added birds from Artistic Outpost and colored them with STAEDTLER Karat Aquarell pencils.  The flowers were dabbed with gold paint.  The trim is metallic and from Ranger / Tim Holtz smeared with the same gold paint.  The background is painted with Ranger Metallic Stains.

Create, Fly, Dream

Good Morning!  I started playing yesterday with some new stamps, dies, and stencils that I won over at the Mixed Media  Color Challenge.  They are My Favorite Things Designed by Mona Pendleton.  I decided why not use them with the new Mixed Media Color Challenge.

I started with the stencil and a light blue paint. I smeared it randomly over the background.  I loved the effect and was thinking mermaid. :)  I then aided spritzes of pink glimmer mist in areas over the background. I then added a smear of white paint around the edges.  I stenciled on the butterflies and stamped a few in red.

I stamped the lovely sentiment along the bottom.  I then found some Kelly purkey stickers to add my words smeared in pink ink.

Mixed Media Challenge

I decided to play along with my friend Mona's new Mixed Media Challenge #6 using the colors hot pink, light pink and gray.
I ended up with two different projects. The first one started from a piece of pattern paper sitting on my desktop. I had a piece of paper with gray woodgrain on the background.  I decided to stencil the damask pattern over the surface using PaperArtsy grunge paste.  While it was wet I sprinkled Stampendous Ultra-fine Micro Glitter over the surface.  after that dried I spied a leftover Eiffel tower die cut from a page in a book. I applied decoupage to attach it to the front.  I added smears of white paint around the edges.  My piece was a little too small for my cardbase so I applied Maya Road trim along the bottom.

Then I got stuck.  Walked away and came back thinking what if I add a bunch of flowers and trinkets?  So I laid them down and applied a coat of gesso. I sprayed over that with sprays (Black and Pink) The black turns gray with a light application.  I then decided I needed an image and found the lovely lady from Artistic Outposts Loverly London to use.  I stamped her on tissue paper and decoupaged her into the middle. I finished it with the french words along the top.

Along the way I played with a set of stamps from Hero Arts that I purchased because of Jacqueline and her inspiration using these new stamps.   If you haven't checked out Jacqueline's blog you should it is quite a treat to see what she has created.  This card is very much inspired by Jacqueline's style.

This started from me stamping the flower with pink and gray onto a scrap piece of cardstock. Along the way it got misted when I was misting my other project.  I decided to keep going with it and added an Eiffel tower and some other images onto the card. This is a small card made from leftovers. I was pleased with the effect after it was done so decided to add it into my post.  Sets used: Hero Arts, Artistic Outpost - Paris Exposition, Loverly London, Stampers Anonymous Attic Treasures
