Bells of Joy

Bells of Joy is what I named today's tag.  I was inspired by Linda's Week #10 in her Funkie Junkie Tags of Christmas challenge which is sponsored by her store The Funkie Junkie Boutique.  Her tag used the cool tinsel stencil which I loved as soon as I saw it.  I had decided to tinsel it up with some shimmery silver embossing paste sprinkled with glitter.

After I created this over the top shimmery background I was trying to decide how to play against the beautiful background.  I took inspiration from Linda's tag with her focal point of a wreath and scattered snowflakes and decided to use a big snowflake.

I wanted a bright color to go with the silver and the citron spoke to me.  I splattered, sprayed and died my snowflake, ribbon and background.  I then dangled some bells from the bottom.

When I think of bells of joy, I think of walking into church with the ground covered in snow, seeing my breath and listening to the bells sing. Christmas Eve Mass at midnight the church filled with everyone celebrating the birth of the Savior.

Wishing you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year!

Joy

Happy New Year!  Today is the new challenge for the Funkie part of the Frilly and Funkie Design Team.  The first challenge of 2017 New Year's Inspiration is hosted by Jenny she has asked us to be inspired by New Year's resolutions.  For this challenge  create a vintage or shabby chic project depicting what you are inspired to do/achieve this year.

I have been inspired by 2017 to think positively.  I used Joy as my word for 2017.

I created a wall hanging to put in my craft room to keep me focused on Joy in 2017.

I started with the music stencil in the background and misted it using wild honey distress stain spray. I repeated a few times on mixed media paper.  I also used it on a gessoed cardboard background.

I then used a variety of stamps and objects to think about Joy and how I could give joy, find joy, choose joy and be joyful.

The team will choose their top four picks with the winner being invited to join us in a Guest DT spot here at Frilly and Funkie and the next three will receive badges to display on their blogs. Everyone who enters and follows the rules will be entered into the draw to have the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

I hope you find joy in 2017!

Believe in Joy

Howdy!  The wind chill is fierce today and going to be very cold for the next few weeks.  I am bundled up crafting in my cozy craft room.  Having so many supplies lining the wall gives me extra insulation. :)

I was working on Tim's tag for December. It took me awhile and I came up with my take on his inspirational tag.

I created about 6 pieces of burlap backgrounds and couldn't get the effect I wanted. I moved onto canvas and was happy with the way the stencil showed up on a golden background.  This set the tone for the tag a mix of Aged Mahogany and Gold.

The background was sprayed with gold mist and let dry.  I then sponged the dye ink over the stencil on the background.

To emulate the letterpress technique:  1. Sponged on dye ink on the embossing folder and embossed the paper.   2. Stenciled with embossing paste and when dry dragged the dye ink over the surface to add a shadow of color.

The charms were all colored using a Krylon pen to give them the golden tones.  The finishing touch was a sprinkling of Stampendous Luxe mixture of glitter and mica flakes.

Christmas Tags

Hello.  I have been in and out of my craft room with a big mess on my desk. In addition to my stars that I was working on I had 3 different tags in process.  I finished two of them and stopped to share them with you.  These are inspired by Linda The Funkie Junkie's 12 Tags of Christmas Challenge.  She has an annual challenge sponsored by The Funkie Junkie Boutique and you have opportunities to win a gift certificate at her store.

For Week #6 Linda used the beautiful white offset by the kraft and layered in wonderful die cut branches and trees.  I loved the whole effect and emulated what she had done with a different mix of dies but tried to achieve the same effect.

For Week #4 Linda created a beautiful poinsettia card. Her flowers are always gorgeous.  I loved the colors and design and tried to case the layout.  I unfortunately had not a poinsettia flower on hand either in die cuts or paper flowers so I improvised.
I did follow Linda's tag by die cutting the holly leaves in the shape of a poinsettia on the top two flowers.  I then took the pieces that were die cut in the top two flowers to create my bottom two flowers.  I added a nice sprinkling of gold and aged mahogany ink spray to the front. I sponged the background and the flowers with aged mahogany.

Thanks for stopping by!

Joy

Yeah it is Thursday and we are almost rolling into the weekend. :)  I have to say I think this is my first holiday card for this  year.  I have made some tags but not a card yet.

I created a whole piece of cardstock using the Darkroom Door Eclectic Snowflake stamp.  I painted it with white acrylic paint and stamped it on the white cardstock. I repeated the process until I had the whole paper covered.  I let that dry.

I pulled out a mix of Ranger Distress Sprays and started with Iced Spruce.  I didn't like the color so I kept adding in sprays until I got a lovely dark gray background.  After that dried I splattered with the white, blue and silver sprays.  You can't see it in the photo but the silver is gorgeous dew drops in the light.

After that I cut it into multiple pieces to use on cards and this is the first one cut at an angle, distressed around the edges and accented with the Darkroom Door Wordstrips - Yuletide.

Now I have a few more pieces of this lovely background to play with.  Have a wonderful Thursday!
