Planning a Vacation

We have had an incredibly busy summer for us and one that didn't even get our usual road trip family vacation.  When I heard our challenge was Planning for Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge this week I decided to create a planning portfolio for our next trip to keep us thinking about when to fit one in as a whole family.

I had purchased the Tim Holtz Idea-Ology Small Folio awhile ago with the intent of making a trip planner to hold all kinds of keepsakes and mementos.
I knew I wanted pockets lots of them to stick things like tickets, receipts, scraps of materials inside.
So pockets was the first thing I made.  The portfolio looked like this after I covered it with several pages from an old atlas of the United States.  I added a coat of white paint watered down to soften the background.

Then the pockets:
I am not much for creating in three dimensions so I usually sketch my idea and try it a few times to get what I want.  I ended up with two pieces and you can see I just scored multiple times on a basic square shape with a few extra 1/4 inches on the side and bottom.  I attached them with the super sticky score tape to ensure they would stay.   I made them the size of the pocket cards from Idea-Ology for the design.

I had these fun circular ties and they stuck right on the front to open and close.

When you open it up you can see more pocket cards with pockets to store slips of paper.

On the bottom of the inside I added a big vellum envelope to store larger items:

and on the inside I added a little clipboard mechanism to slide things in and have them held there to easily grab them if needed. Also a few more pockets with fun images and layers.

Well the planner is ready to go... now we need to find time to take that trip!  :)

ICAD #3

Happy Father's Day!  We will be grilling later and hopefully a game of scrabble with my dad is in the plans.  I have been working on a few DT projects but also playing with my next ICAD. These little pieces of art are quite addictive.... The prompt is draw a map.  I have been using my stamps for the drawing piece.  I did add white highlights. :)

I used the map as the springboard for the rest of my index card.  I spritzed a bit of blue and green in the background over my map.
This is one of my favorite things mixing in all types of stamps and overlapping the images. I stamped the map first in the background.  I then came back with Mona and added the mix of  buildings and the cities.  I finished with the compass. The main images are all embossed with black embossing powder to make them pop over the background.

I stenciled the Go Discover using black embossing paste.  Fun and easy!

"M" is for...

"M" is for Map!  The challenge this week at   Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge is all about the letter "M". This week is May's birthday (Happy Birthday May!)  and you can use the letter "M" as your inspiration.

My project started with the beautiful map from Impression Obsession.  I stamped it in a soft blue to create my background.
I stamped the map twice on a piece of cardstock using the new Ranger Archival Ink - Cornflower Blue.   I then repeated the stamping on a piece of tissue paper. which I mixed with a touch of gesso and blue spray and then applied to the bottom half of the map.

I distressed the edges with a distressing tool.  I sponged the edges with brown dye ink.
I then stamped the ship, sentiment, lighthouse using a gray ink.

I added screw brads on the corner.  I hot glued the shells to the front. I added a mix of sand in between the shells.   The background layer is painted white with acrylic paint and then I pulled the gray ink pad over the painted surface. I then inked up the edges of the chipboard with the gray ink.

Voyage

The Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge is Nautical Nonsense. Anything nautical related can be your inspiration.
I interpreted the challenge as an opportunity to pull out my brand new DarkRoom Door Sail Away set.

I smeared the surface of a  map from an old Atlas with a touch of white paint. I stamped the images using Ranger Archival ink onto the dried map. I highlighted the image with a touch of color using watercolor pencils and waterbrush.
I decided to add a touch of hemp with metal findings. The edges were distressed and mounted on a kraft cardbase.
