Shiny Shimmery Soldier

Today is December 1st!  The kids are opening day one in our advent calendar.  My youngest is 11 and my oldest 17.  Next year he won't be here for the opening of the advent calender as he will be off at college.  YIKES!   Being the first day of December, also means a new tag from Tim. I was happy to see Tim's tag this morning as it gave me much needed inspiration.

Tim's December tags are here.   The only problem for me was I was missing the key ingredients.  I had to improvise...

I do love my new Sizzix Tin Soldier die.  I didn't feel like I had done him justice the last time I put him on a tag.  So he came back out to replace the snowman on Tim's tag.

The background is a mix of Broken China & Tarnished Pewter Distress Stains.  I never seem to get the same effect as Tim and this was about my 4th try to replicate the effect.   I die cut my soldier from a scrap of the same background.  I die cut the soldier again in Metallic Tape Foil.  I also die cut him from a book and a map.  They both look very cool. Just need to use the rest of my army on future projects.

I stamped text over the background using grey versafine ink and heat embossed with silver embossing powder.  I added the Postcard stamp using black Stazon over the embossed background along the right edge.  The silver pieces on the soldier also received some text stamped in black Stazon.   The Joy is also a stamp stamped on the metallic tap and cut out.

Products: Ranger - Metal Foil Sheets, Sizzix Tin Soldier
Ranger Tinsel Twine, Stampers Anonymous Attic Treasures, Tinsel Silver Embossing powder,
Memory Box Vintage Dreams StampStampers Anonymous - Postcard, Memory Box Joy Die, (Wish I had it would have made it easier when cutting out. :)

I was pleased with my shimmery soldier and tag. Now off to finish up some more holiday projects!  I hope you all are having a wonderful weekend!

  7. I never seem to have the right items for Tim's projects either (despite having loads!!). You've improvised very well here and the soldier is great - another die I'd not spotted and might need. I like the effect on the background and of course no two will ever come out the same which is part of the fun. Great tag.

  8. I don't think I would ever have looked at that soldier die and thought 'I need that' but I liked him the first time you used it Sue and you said you wanted to make him again using book pages and he looks fabulous. The whole tag is wonderful and you are so clever with your improvisations.
